The four tunes shine through as a journey of music starting with 'Tell Dem', a horn and organ filled stepper with a huge bottom end. 'Mystic 'Revelation' will then catch the listener's attention with a eiry Dub style which follows to give a groove with constant long delays. 'Black Tears' will delight the minimal lovers with its huge echos and sliced beats layered over a big spacious atmosphere, finishing with 'Soundz of Freedom' one for a cold night, with its dark, rolling, progressive elements to hypnotise you in for sure.

In this unique collaboration London’s Subaltern Records and New York’s TUBA team up to deliver a compilation featuring some of the finest artists from both sides of the pond. As one would expect of the combined selection of two taste-making labels, they've packed in a weighty 12 tracks ranging from all out system tunes to melodic headphone skankers. Interestingly, several of the producers featured have released with both imprints. The strength and musicality of these tracks demonstrate that Subaltern and Tuba have succeeded in 'bridging the gap' and creating transatlantic musical exchanges. TransAtlantic Volume 2 out May 11th.

None of the terms used for this kind of stuff really stuck, did they? Bass music, future garage, uhhhh "post-dubstep" - they don't really cut it. But here it is, exquisitely-constructed music that has a little bit of the electro-IDM finesse of an  Objekt , a little bit of vintage 2-step swing, a little bit of  Livity Sound -ish gritty soundystem techno, and a whole lot of dubwise echoes of FWD>>. This is coming on the  Wisdom Teeth  label that K-Lone runs with Facta, on a split 12" with  Keysound  alumnus Etch, and it's a proper tasty little bassbin-tester.

Submotion Orchestra "Sunshine" [Out World-Wide]

Of all the labels that are supporting the new school of deep down and dreamy dubstep (think Tuba, System, Hatcha's Hatched imprint, as well of course as Mala's mighty Deep Medi), Subaltern is quickly becoming the most distinctive. Its releases are united by a particularly trippy approach, with complex meandering structures, and untold layers of hand percussion. The artists stretch from Turkey (Gantz) to the USA (Prism), but they seem to have a particular fondness for dubwise Italians, with the mighty D-Operation Drop and Piezo who is now on his second release for Subaltern with this impeccable bit of soundsystem science.

If you're a drum 'n' bass head in the slightest, you're likely to have heard the super slick tones and melodies of London-based vocalist Riya. 

Since 2010 she's worked with some of the best in the game, from Marcus Intalex ('Regrets') and Lenzman ('How Did I Let You Go?') to dBridge ('Seems Like') and S.P.Y ('Loneliness'). 

After years of featuring, 2015's the year she flips the question and asks the producers to feature on her debut album 'Sublimation' on BCee's Spearhead Records. Hybrid Minds, LSB, Break and Villem & McLeod are among some of those providing beats, as well as Total Science who she's hooked up with plenty of times before.

Slime reaches a new milestone for the label with the launch of its first physical release.

To celebrate, we wish a welcome return to the imprint for Swedish producer Materia, who has crafted 'Atlas', an album that extrapolates the fundamentals of house, garage, dubstep and techno - then fuses them into a listening experience full of warmth and texture which reveals further depths through every repeated play.

'Otherland' is the opening statement of intent. Windswept and widescreen, it's cinematic qualities are pushed to the fore from the outset with melancholy chords drenched over skeletal percussion. The mood intensifies as the ice-cold beat drops and the track draws you slowly under its spell.

'Clouds' sees a collaboration with NYC vocalist Winter and UK lyricist Koast. Over a narcotic half-step rhythm, Koast delivers a heartfelt paean to hedonism taking its toll, whilst Winter adds her gossamer voice to proceedings, elevating the track into something solemn yet beautiful.

'Grounded' evokes hazy summer nights spent in a neon-soaked metropolis, as live strings, guitar and brass coalesce into a laidback groove that exudes a rich sensuality.

'Shallow Waters' goes south of the equator and turns the tempo up for a rolling house cut with live Rhodes and flute in a playful interchange.

'Shadows' finds cavernous space in dubwise rhythms, with a booming sub-bass strapped to skittering beats and emotive chords.

'Headspace' combines dub and techno textures with startling results, offering up an expansive galaxy of spectral sound to drift into.

'Skylight' sees the return of songstress Winter to add sugar-sweet vocal textures over a gorgeous drum & bass rhythm that is full to the brim with sunshine.

'Downstream' draws the listener down deep into a seductive house groove with live saxophone played with a mischievous touch by Startslow.

'Ruins' is a joint composition between Materia and the highly-regarded Bristol producer Forsaken, who combine for an atmospheric slow house jam with a moody energy all its own.

'Synthesis' completes the journey with a grand flourish, delving into tech-house territory for an epic nine minute excursion into interstellar rhythms that takes you off the edge of the world into ecstasy.
