APX 1, A Los Angeles Born & Raised Dj/Producer who has been involved with the L.A. Underground Scene for over 25 years now. Primarily known for his own unique rough sound & west coast influenced Hip Hop style of Drum n Bass. In 1997 APX 1 started his own artist management company Revolution which was the leading West Coast Drum & Bass Roster. Roster included talents of R.A.W., CURIOUS, HIVE, LION, APX 1, MC QUESTION MARK, and MC DAPPA D. APX 1 has performed at some of Southern Californias record breaking massives. Including Monster Massive, Together As One, Rewind, Guerilla Warfare, and The Cypress Hill Smokeout, including every underground venue for jungle that Los Angeles has to offer. In 1999 Apx 1 co-founded Herbn' Music along with partner Dj Curious which featured ragga influenced jungle music. Which became an imprint for los angeles ragga drum n bass. During this year Apx 1 alongside Raw and Curious toured the entire country. Well over 30 States were toured during just this one year. In 2001 Apx 1 took all of his reggae/hip hop knowledge and put it to work on his own drum n bass label Ghetto Life Recordings along with Ghetto Life Clothing. 1st release was ground breaking for the hip hop/jungle scene. Along with fellow producer SUBFLO a masterpiece was born. Blending the rough gangsta filled lyrics of West Coast Connection with a monstrous amen laced track that took the U.S. by storm. Some of Ghetto Life Recordings dj's and producers include CRS?, SLYTEN, STEEL, JAHWY & IRAY. During his career Apx 1 has released a catalogue of mixtapes and mixed cd's that continues to grow. 2006 was a groundbreaking year for Ghetto Life and Tonz of Drumz. During this year both Curious and Apx1 packed full of merchandise embarked on a tour. HERBN' IN DA GHETTO TOUR included states on both coasts of the United States. The tour also included a date in Johannesburg, South Africa. Now in this New Year of 2007 Apx 1 along with partner Curious have become a pair of the top promoters with Tonz of Drumz in Los Angeles. With a Saturday Night Monthly called "DETOUR". Also a Sunday Day Party Monthly called "I LOVE L.A." that has Over 40 Local Artists Booked at Every Event! We have catered to some of the Best of the Best when it comes to Local All Stars as well as Super Stars. On Halloween 2010 we showcased the Classic Reggae Legend Eek-a-Mouse & WU TANG AFFILIATE Prodigal Sunn from Sunz of Man! We Are Now Celebrating its 7th Year in the LA Undergroud Party Circuit! Now in 2014 It has become one of the Best Day Parties to Attend to for The Los Angeles Underground Bass Scene! APX 1 has become one of the most booked artists in Los Angeles. Eh bien, après mon travail de jour, je rentre le plus souvent à la maison, m'assoir, me détendre et profiter d'un moment pour soi, à soi… Puis selon l’envie, j'allume le son, internet ou autre… Tranquille. J'aime aussi sortir ‘parfois’ restau, pub, ciné, concert en tout genre, club…  Il m’arrive aussi de recevoir mes potes légèrement intoxiqués de whisky et de bières comme moi… Mais bien sûr, comme n'importe quel autre DJ, beaucoup de mon temps est consacré à cette quête sans fin d'une bonne nouvelle musique. HD

What do you do in your free time?
Well, after my day job, I come home most often, sit down, relax and enjoy a moment for myself ... Then according to the desire... I turn on the sound, internet or other ... Cool. I also like going out 'by faith' eatery, pub, cinema, concert of all kinds, club ... I also happen to receive my friends slightly intoxicated with whiskey and beer like me ... But of course, like any what other DJ, a lot of my time is spent on this endless quest for good new music. HD

Rob Gonzalez aka Machete began his musical career back in 1991 as DJ Rob G, spinning Hip-Hop at Hollywood afterhours events. The Los Angeles underground rave culture was in it's infancy and Rob was inspired by the techno-breakbeat music emerging out of England via vinyl records played by DJs Raw, Curious, and Oscar da Grouch. By 1994, Rob had fully embraced this new genre called ‘Jungle’ and changed his DJ name to Machete.

As DJ Machete, Rob helped put his crew, Junglist Platoon, on the map with gigs at nearly every Jungle party in the Greater Los Angeles area. A brief residency with Los Angeles mega-promoter Insomniac, plus a noted mention in URB Magazine's NEXT 100 Issue (1998) garnered much attention. Machete was also named LA’s #7 Best DJ by LA Weekly (2016)

In March of 1999, Machete and the Junglist Platoon began hosting a weekly Drum and Bass event called RESPECT with Rob in charge of talent bookings, promotions, as well as being a resident DJ. After 21+ years, RESPECT is the longest running Jungle/Drum and Bass weekly in Los Angeles in addition to being one of the most successful clubs of it's kind in the United States. RESPECT is globally known for bringing the best international and stateside talent and continues to do so after settling into it's current venue, Station 1640 in Hollywood. 

In 2020 Machete is busier than ever with his DJ residency at RESPECT, spinning at one-off events, booking Drum and Bass tours as an agent / owner of Respect Artist Agency, hosting a weekly RESPECT DnB RADIO program, and engaging production projects proving his versatility as an artist. DJ Machete's longevity speaks for his talents, dedication, and determination which has surely solidified his place as a force in the electronic music scene.
