
“Dualism” is a dance performance that takes you into the everyday life of a multicultural individual. The performance is created by Alexander Montgomery-Andersen and Madeleine Fairminer, both with multicultural backgrounds. They play with the inner processes, from the conscious to the subconscious. They raise questions about our daily actions and social interactions, based on the cultural differences we carry with us. How do I navigate through crowds, which interactions do I engage in, and which do I choose not to? Am I visibly multicultural to those around me? And what expectations does the outside world have of me?

Tuomas Rounakari: Itku - lamentation for strings (2002), is based on ancient Carelian melodies of ritual laments. 

The composition earned a 3rd prize in the 40th Anniversary Competition of Turku Conservatory Finland for Scandinavian Composers in 2002. This recording is from the 40th Anniversary Celebration with the Anniversary Orchestra conducted by Juha Kangas.

Subsequently it was performed at the University of Sorbonne, Paris as part of the 8th International Congress on Musical Signification 2004.

Ama no Gawa (2007) by Tuomas Rounakari

Ama no Gawa is written in memory of Toru Takemitsu and it is based on a Japanese myth about two lovers that circulate in the milky way. The composition uses the soundboard of a grand piano in a special way, creating echos and resonances with the wind instruments. 

This is the original version for pno, fl, ob and cl. There is also a version for pro, fl, vl and a cl.
