On April 25, 1993, one million people flocked to the nation’s capital to take part in one of the largest civil rights demonstrations in American history.

The 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation would leave a legacy of robust grassroots organizing and set the stage for a hopeful decade. 

Almost 30 years later, the march has faded out of mainstream national consciousness.

I interviewed march organizers, attendees and activists about their experience at the historic demonstration, as well as what it means today.
