Heaven 313 - "Ambient Summer Mix" for mental space

Anima is the new EP of Berlin based multi instrumentalist and music producer Tom Willems (TCV @tcvbln).

The five tracks comprising the record showcase digitally heavy, brute soundscapes full of uncompromising rhythm and melody. Drawing inspiration from classic genres like gabber and industrial, TCV articulates a sound that is highly abrasive but often surprises with poetic verity.

As the track names indicate, the record conceptually is concerned with the human body and its perception as something which can be both fragile and powerful. TCV unveils, that a traumatising phase of his life, inspired him to process his impressions of lifelessness being inhabited by machine-power. Witnessing how new wealth and vitality is being pumped into a corpus made him fascinate about this passive recreation. The idea of a life depending on mechanical forces, repeating and recovering, is echoing through his acoustic concept. Each track thereby communicates a different stage of a physical transitioning, thus a metamorphosis in whole.

Bob: Is Kane West your real name, or did you borrow it from the cover of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars?

Kane: both. its my real name but its a ziggy ref. my mums a big ziggy fan. the whole marley clan actually.

B: Is it true that you have chips, baked beans and poppers on your rider? 

K: not true, not true. ive never heard that before. that's a fake rider. you shouldn't believe everything you read bob.

B: Do you know why Mr Fingers was called Mr Fingers? 

K: according to bill brewster its because he had fingers plural. and it was heards way of saying he was an everyman, because many people have more than one finger. the whole point of fingers inc was that it was several band-members = many fingers - like a factory. similar to the american tradition of naming family restaurant franchises after factories (cheesecake factory, pizza corp, dennys). its all about chicago, detroit, the mid-west, the motor industry, etc.

B: Do you have any beautiful dark twisted fantasies?

K: dont we all bob dont we all. but what about the ugly light straightened-out realities. or are they the same thing? someone should make a record about that.

B: How are you planning to spend Christmas?

K: same as i spend christmas every year. same as i spend every single day of my life. in the club.
