Heavy rock is where it's at these days. Or is it? What is it, exactly? Are Queens of the Stone Age "heavy"? Is Clutch? Mastodon certainly are, but William Elliot Whitmore... well, he is, too, in a sense. Maybe a better way to describe it is: Heavy Rock exists, and it is good.

If any of these aforementioned artists are of a heaviness that can be quantified, Northern California's OVER THE FALLS would certainly help them tip the scales. Built 5 years ago by beer and big drums, tube amps and bear hugs, these 4 dudes... wait, they added a guitarist/keyboarder; make that 5 dudes... these 5 dudes have progressed alongside yet out-of-sight of their spiritual brethren in the world of rock music that's just too loud for your mom's mom.

The 3rd studio album from Over The Falls (... and we'd be happy, August 2014, Crapscreamer Records) is a slightly darker approach to the goofy thrash-stoner-prog-blues-punk ethos that these guys have fostered over the years. Well, as dark as an album with 30-second thrashers about beach parties ("Boltcutters & Speedos"), sing-along punk about fictional espionage ("Finnarininin's Revenge-enge"), and a Pixies-esque tune about pet monkeys ("Higontus") can get. There is some heavy sh** in there, outside of the riffs. The record opens with a drone-rock shoegazer about the perils of pedestrian life ("That's What the Sign Said"), and the album's centerpiece, "Grow", is a thunderous vent of frustration, complete with a sonic breakdown and refrain that imply the rage required to force something to evolve that really just won't listen to you, no matter your fervor. For good measure, there's funk-rock escapades about bad deals with devils ("The Judge") and some lonesome, quiet drifters that, while being significantly muted compared to the rest of the album, still carry the heaviness that permeates the record ("Ninefingers", "What's Better Than Time?").

Regardless of what "heavy rock" is supposed to be, or who fits under its wing, Over The Falls is a band who plays it fast and loud. And it is good.

I started to make electronic music at the age of 15 in 1986 (on Casio multi-keyboards) through to 1988 (on a Roland D50, Yahama DX7 and Roland HS101 with a Roland drum machine and a Tascam 4 track tape deck). I was also invited try-out Iannis Xnakis's "Upic" system in 1989 at the Barbican Centre, which was a thrilling experience. After a break, I picked up electronic music making again in 1994 (on a Apple Mac LC3 running Cubase Score with a Roland JV30). I also placed an ad in the Melody Maker for a signer/lyricist, teamed up with a guy who was a massive Smiths fan, so all our songs sounded like Pet Shop Boys backing tracks with Morrissey on vocals. Strangely, I can't find any of our demos (though am sure they languish somewhere on a tape somewhere). Here are some of my early solo tracks that I found on a TDK D60 cassette tape. The loss of bass, therefore, is not entirely shocking.

Tingle In The Netherlands is an electro-pop collaboration between poet Helên
Thomas and electronic musician Owen J based in Manchester UK. We have been creating music together since 2009.

Musically, others have described our sound as being reminiscent of bands such as Kraftwerk, Ladytron, Chris & Cosey, Severed Heads, Soft Cell, Human League and Vince Clarke. These comparisons reflect many of Owen’s musical influences which would also include bands such as Liaisons Dangereuses, Tuxedomoon, Danielle Dax and YMO. While Owen creates the majority of the music Helên provides most, but not all, of the lyrics as well as contributing some vocal melodies. Although we have performed at Ste McCabe’s Pussywhipped event in Manchester, we consider ourselves to be a studio band so currently do not have any plans to perform live.

Our first EP, ‘Prostitute's Handbag’ was released in 2010 and included a remix, by Atomizer, of the title track. ‘Prostitute's Handbag’ reached number 11 in the Dandelion Radio Festive Fifty 2010, receiving votes for the original version and the Atomizer remix.

Born in France as the son of the great singer, Demis Roussos, Cyril grew up in and around music his whole life. Although his first love with music and greatest influences is undoubtedly classic 80’s rock and synth pop; such as U2, The Cure, Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys, his first steps in music was as a DJ in the early House Music era.
 Raised in America for a number of years he returned to France in the late 90’s, right at the peak of the then termed “French Touch” House Music scene, which was pioneered by the likes of Motorbass and Daft Punk and became very popular in Greece where he later lived. Enthralled by the concept of fusing funk and disco samples with filtered loops and jack house beats, he began to DJ this style of music in underground parties and festivals. 
His inspiration from the rise of electro house and complextro by such artists as Justice, Wolfgang Gartner and Porter Robinson fueled his desire to further his musical voyage as a producer of electronic music and as of 2014 Cyril had signed on as an artist with UPFILTER RECORDS as Jareth Cole.
Cyril continues to work on music as a composer, arranger, producer and singer, creating music that has deep roots in the sounds of the 80s with a modern dancefloor beat. As of 2016 he began working on his first complete upcoming album “Retrospective Minds”

RAY KOSMICK - FICTIONAL BIO:

Ray Kosmick is an artiste extraordinaire - besides playing drums, percussion, keyboards, bass, guitar, tables, chairs, floors, bottles, beer cans and any other objects he might come across, he is also his own producer, arranger, sound engineer, mixing and mastering engineer, fitness trainer, janitor, domestic cleanliness engineer, waiter, cook, lyricist, screenwriter, costumes designer, makeup artist, as well as roadie and groupie. Despite the fact that the listeners of his monumental works are few and far between, he remains convinced he has a bit of a knack for making music. Still, he has not recorded any hit singles yet.

Ray’s undying wish is to make soundtracks for big-budget porn, and earning a cut of those budgets, too - hence his “Ray Kosmick and His Porn Groove Crew” project, which actually consists of only himself. Every year Ray attends the Venus Porn Fair in Berlin, Germany, and tells everyone there “Guten Tag, ich bin Ray Kosmick und ich bin ein Porn Groove Meister,” which about wraps up his knowledge of German. As a rule, the porn industry professionals who have the misfortune of hearing the tunes by »Ray Kosmick and His Porn Groove Crew« in the context of erotic films of any quality and/or subgenre soon realise that Ray’s love of baroque audio drama, elaborate rhythmic embroidery, psychedelic escapades and inclination towards maximalism might not fit their productions too well. The kinder among them then tell Ray that he tends to go over the top a bit, while those among them with a perverted sense of humour usually laugh their asses off at how bizarre the action on the screen looks when observed while listening to Ray’s soundtrack proposals. To date nobody has hired Ray and his non existent co-conspirators yet, even though he is respected in certain circles as a laughingstock - Ed Wood of the porn groove industry.

Ray Kosmick is a fictional character appearing in the novels “Cynicism Management” (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B019TE8HSO) and “Pendulum Pet” (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CO0NYV0) by Bori Praper. It is also a Bori’s pseudonym and psychedelic rock / indietronica / soundtracks alter ego, so all the tracks by Ray Kosmick are in fact written, recorded and produced by Bori (Borut) Praper.
