Dominique was born on the south side of Chicago, IL.  She began performing at young age in a dance tour group, but she knew since the tender age of five that singing was her ultimate love.  She made her first solo singing debut at the age of eleven and never looked back.  Since then she was in a girls band at age 14 and moved on to her pursue her solo career at age of 20. Taija New, also known as the Newbian King, is a distinguished Rhythmic Pop entertainer whose remarkable journey began humbly at open mic events in her hometown of Springfield, Massachusetts. It was in these intimate settings that she refined her live performance skills, laying the groundwork for an impressive career. In 2015, Taija made her mark in the music industry with the release of her debut EP, "Color Me Complex," which featured the acclaimed single 'Newbian King.' This empowering track not only challenges the traditional gender binary but also serves as a tribute to her unique identity.

Following her debut, Taija continued to evolve as an artist, unveiling two additional projects, including her highly-anticipated sophomore album, “Heart on the Stage,” released in 2017. This album was accompanied by a two-year album-titled tour, showcasing her dedication to her craft and her commitment to delivering unforgettable live experiences.

Throughout her career, Taija has exhibited an unwavering dedication to her growth as an entertainer. She has elevated her performances to full live productions, captivating audiences across North America. Notably, she has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Jennifer Hudson, Todrick Hall, K.Michelle, and Tiffany Evans, further solidifying her presence in the music scene.

In 2023, her efforts culminated in a significant milestone as she garnered official Grammy Award consideration from The Recording Academy for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards for her track ‘Over Your Allure‘ in the category of Best Melodic Rap Performance. In 2025, Taija contributed to the development of and served as the lead vocalist for the song "Fallen," which is the feature song for the award-winning film, Plight. 

After the release of her newest album "Unsolicited Material", which garnered her a nomination for the New England Music Awards in the Hip Hop Act of the Year category, her journey continues to serve as a wellspring of inspiration and connection for audiences from various backgrounds, reinforcing her status as an emerging talent in the music industry.
