Galway workhorses Queen Elvis are driven by Caroline and Colin Stanley, who gigged extensively in the 90s, had a little sit down and a cup of tea, and came back five years later with a new haul of soulful dreamy songs – think ‘Paper Moon’ stripped down to guitar and mournful cello, with Caroline’s bold gaelic lilt issuing from a cave of echo. At points the songs are absolutely filmic, opening windows onto scenes of lost innocence. Rockabye Baby’s soaring strings and found fragments of children playing, or the birdsong, walking bass and pizzicato strings at the start of Round and Round give way to some wonderfully characterful strings in the Irish tradition. As Robyn Hitchcock sang, “Some are made and some are born to be Queen Elvis.”

Now into territory unknown for myself, the world of trad. Not just any kinda trad, mind you, this is a bit special. Queen Elvis (cool name, huh?) play a pretty damn killer blend of laidback, dreamy, progressive trad, that marries new techniques and styles into the already tried and tested formula of soaring, traditional female vocals. Galway based 5-piece Queen Elvis were formed in 2009 by husband/wife duo Caroline and Colin stanley, having toured heavily during the 90′s as Big Bag Of Sticks, another fine trad outfit.

“Little World” is a broad EP, but of the same piece. “Round and Round” is a melancholic, vocal driven number, instruments lilting into view. Great string section, nothing at all generic or formulaic about it, it feels like a song you should have heard a long time ago. The drawback of a lot of folk acts is the lack of variety in the vocal section, but that is not even an issue here. Caroline Stanley’s vocals are on point. “Easy” verges on lounge jazz, a loop of percussion underneath a breezy horn lead.. A summer song if ever there was one. In fact, it’s a beautiful morning here, and i have this on and it couldn’t be a more perfect soundtrack to these blue skies. “Rockabye Baby” utilises samples of children playing, not unlike Radical Face, it’s a pretty cool effect, adding atmosphere to this dreamy violin heavy reflection. Again the vocals are just perfect, it’s a voice used as every great voice should be; an instrument in itself. So many modern singers rely on annoying, repeated choruses, to sell records, rather than actual talent.

Calling Queen Elvis “trad”is actually infair, and misleading. In ways it IS traditional, but in many other ways it’s so much more than that. A group of musicians who are making songs based on a shared love of creating beautiful music, that is simply it. Yes, that concept is “traditional”, at least it used to be, but it’s alive and well all the same, and living strongly in Queen Elvis.

Breathe in... Breathe out... – The most simple way to stay alive if only for a moment, or in the other hand for an eternity. Blurix – the shape, the form, the matter, the sound, the body, the soul, ‘the’ artist. Taking the ‘brush’ and dipping it to his sound-palette he started with music creativity at the age of 12 in his hometown, the capital of Croatia – Zagreb. Following other peoples footsteps wasn’t exactly what he considered to be a process of ‘making something new’, there for he refused to follow only the basic principles his father taught him (being an audiophile and an old school type DJ), but took over what he could learn of the technical basis and went on, searching for ‘The’ sound.

Blurix’ music performing and producing skills are wide and so is his unconventional use of conventional sounds & hardware and software machines, which leads to having a wide library of sound pieces (tracks and releases) going from straight / pure techno to electro, experimental electronica, IDM, ambiental, tec-house, minimal, …

In 2006. he opens up his own net-label with his parner DraCo called “Diggarama” which promotes high quality electronic music from famous & uprising producers from all over the globe. In 2007. they push their limits harder and open up a ‘bookings agency’ under Diggarama net-label and as such organize events on which they bring guest-stars of the world and as well give the chance to young but tested DJs and producers to present them selves.

In 2007. his single “Tromenia EP” (released on his Diggarama net-label) reaches the 1st place in ‘most downloaded items of the week’ section under Creative Commons license (among all net-labels of the world), and stays on 1st place for about 2 months. – “Tromenia EP” today is the 3rd most downloaded musical EP / album of all times in the world, released under Creative Commons license with over 229 000 downloads.

Today. - Blurix reaches out of the boundaries of common-producing laws in electronic music and out of his main domain - techno, and he's looking for the new soil to plant his seed to. New releases are more point-to-point connected music in EDM domain, such as: chill out, easy listening and ambient music, and on the other end more aggressive and faster techno, industrial and hc.

Echo evolver is my project of atmospheric-ambient, electronic music compositions with a bent in various echo chromes both electronic and acoustic, in complicated structures, abstracted pads and powerful grooves.
I began my ‘adventure’ in the composition of electronic sounds late in the 2003, when a music technology magazine ‘fell’ in my hands, which had lot of reviews and also interviews of people producing electronic music from their bedroom studios. That it was!!! … Infected with the virus of creating and processing sounds through electronic equipment, little later came the first buy, an analog style synth, MS2000B, was the beginning of an ‘adventure’, which is focusing on sound and composition. Massive basses, aggressive leads, atmospheric pads and maddening arps. The beginning has been done and there was continuity, drum machines, mono-synths, multi-timbral synths, multi-effect boxes to carry on looking for vintage effect boxes and especially analog delays and echo processors, in which i saw special tenacity. Almost all of my mixes ‘overflow’ from delays and echoes giving a characteristic style of my track creation.  
From the composing point of view I manage that every track has a specific structure which is based in melodic lines as much as in chords, simultaneous though evolves in length of time avoiding the ‘boring’ repetitive loops. I am aiming at the fact that every track has a ‘reason of existing’ that leads the listener to different paths and becoming a carrier of sensations: pleasure, sadness, liveliness, euphoria, energy.
From a recording point of view i try to ‘fit’ all the sounds that i have in my  mind, during composing, giving them room to ‘breathe’ and the ability to be heard and always try to balance between powerful grooves, distinct elements and ethereal pads.
See music in total as an expression as a different way of communicating, as a carrier of sensation, free from vanity.

The upcoming release of The Strobez will be merging swampy Blues with sweaty Rock and an occasional pinch of Art Rock.

It will tell a story that needs to be told, on a record that needed to be made. Organic and real, like the musicians themselves. Expect groove, expect energy, expect earthy improvisations and solos, above all expect authenticity.

The Strobez are three very close friends that have been playing together in various outfits, on thousands of gigs. Only to get back together as a trio to do what they love; playing their hearts out, writing their songs and telling their story. The bond between the musicians is strong and tested by time, just like the music they play and how they play it.
