This sonnet is written from the Melaleuca 'Thyme Honey Myrtle's' voice, who's quiet fortitude and fragrant memory blooms and persists in rain-kissed places. In Heidegger's philosophical inquiry, dwelling is not just about inhabiting a physical space- it is about being present in the world in a meaningful way...not through possession... but dwelling in peaceful attunement. The honey-myrtle time honored presence steeped in care attuned to the wilderness heart of Grace even when fragrant and fleeting, becomes a living metaphor for this kind of love.

Myrtle's Circular Gift Steeped in Grace

As a child, I fell in love with Storm Boy and the quiet heroism of Mister Percival. He wasn’t just a pelican; he was a symbol of enduring love, of grace that arrives in the middle of a storm. I’ve been blessed to meet a few “Mister Percivals” in my life—kind souls who helped me through rough seasons with their quiet presence and unwavering care.
This ballad is my way of honoring them.
It’s a song for the child I was, and for every child who faces difficulty.
It’s a longing to become the kind of love I once needed...
the kind that flies through icy winds, circles back, and never fades.
I wrote this piece not to retell Storm Boy, but to reflect how its spirit lives on in me as poetic benediction inspired by the emotional truth of the story, rather than its literal details...I believe everyone deserves a Mister Percival in their life—especially whenever a storm comes.

Hello, I’m Jaylee, founding curator of the Skyseed Community, mother of two sensitive and resilient grown children, poetess of fairytale and rhyme, and a retired early years mentor who has carried her childhood dreams into living maturity.
