Four blokes based in London. Three are Welsh. One is English and owns a beard. Two are brothers. All are spectacular musicians. The band formed at a South London pub that bears their name. Bassist Huw Brown, drummer Micky Clarke and guitarist Pete Clarke grew up together in South Wales. Frontman James Moss met Brown at Exeter University. The rest as they say is history. The thought beneath so slight a film

Unseen meanings. That’s what’s at the heart of Hamilton, Ontario’s Thought Beneath Film. On the surface, they’re a good time writ large. Dripping with sweat and bursting with energy, their pop-rock earworms charm their way into your consciousness and get your neck moving. They sound like youth, like summer, like bursting water balloons and big, toothy grins. There’s a good-naturedness to these jams that’s unmistakable, unpretentious and unyielding, and they drive themselves into you like a million high fives. 

Beneath, however, there’s something else. “Our songs may appear to be straight-up pop-rock tunes,” says vocalist Brent Wirth, “but for those that want to dig deeper, there is substance, sophistication and intention in what we're doing.” The Emily Dickinson poem the band’s name is derived from speaks to this dichotomy, and this dichotomy lies at the heart of Thought Beneath Film’s aims, goals, and deepest desires. 

Yes, they play with youthful abandon; yes, they deal in monstrous hooks; and yes punctuate their anthems with the Oohs and Woos and gang vocals that make pop music pop. But their desires are larger — they’re not content with being cool because they want to be good. “We want to be the biggest band in the world,” says Wirth, without a trace of irony or careerism. He knows there’s a stigma to admitting this, but he doesn’t care, because the laces that contain the band’s songs do so barely, and the points at which the songs rise up against those laces reveal a space for everyone to find a home. Standing in fierce opposition to exclusivity and exclusionism within and without the Canadian music scene, Thought Beneath Film’s music is for you, for them, for everyone who wants to comes to the show — because life’s too short to not have your heart set to overdrive. 

Thought Beneath Film’s full-length debut Cartographers is available on April 15th, 2014 via MapleMusic Recordings and Slaight Music. Mixed and mastered by Grammy winners Tom Lord-Alge and Bob Ludwig, respectively, its ten songs promise to be the soundtrack to your wild, restless nights and your woozy, dreamy mornings after.

Warm the Bell was created in Asheville, NC by songwriters and local music scene veterans Sean Robbins (Nevada) and Vickie Burick (Nevada). Joined by Sam Brinkley (Rafe Hollister, Drunken Prayer) on bass/drums, the band began performing as a three piece in early 2010. After adding Anthony Dorion (Silver Machine, Worldline) on bass and combining the influences of 60's rock, Folk, Americana, Indie and Psychedelic Acid Rock, Warm the Bell found its place as a full band. In 2013, Warm the Bell celebrated the release of its debut album “You Are the Sun” recorded in West Asheville at the popular Collapseable Studios. The album was well received. It generated positive reviews and steady sales, including a four star review in Blurt Magazine.

Warm the Bell released "We Are From North Carolina" as a stand alone single in 2014 and In 2015, the band took a break from recording their new album to release a cover of "Christmas Time is Here" as their holiday single. "Christmas Time is Here" was featured in Blurt magazine and was a free download on the website. The band is currently putting the finishing touches on a new album.

However, as a lover of all psychedelic music, its timbre can change in an instant. He takes influence from genres like techno, ambient, acid, breaks, and minimal classical music.

FCKDSKO’s tracks are featured on HATE, 6AM Group, ballacid, Ltd, W/Lbl, Les Yeux Orange, and more.

Aléx ho Mégas:

Aléx ho Mégas is the house moniker of Colorado-based producer FCKDSKO. His tracks have been downloaded by DJs such as Roger Sanchez, Ame, M.A.N.D.Y, and Agoria, among many others. 


Aléx ho Mégas' sound lives in juxtaposition - where the gridded discipline of house music and breaks collide with reverb-laden walls of sound that seemingly take on a mind of their own. This approach of sparring house music discipline with the independence of reverberant synthesis leaves the songs beautifully imperfect; breathing vitality into genres often considered robotic.

He's also garnered features in places like Electronic Groove, Les Yeux Orange, Moskalus, and Handpicked Music.

In my all-encompassing adoration of music, I’ve always been a man’s lady for the most part, probably because I came of age during the transcendent 60s when madcap genius madmen were becoming myths overnight. A tumultuous decade when Dylan turned rock and roll into cuisine for deep thought and George Harrison taught us to turn on, tune in and wake up. A few femmes have banged my gong through the years – Janis, of course, Chrissie, Patty Griffin, Lucinda -- and recently I was introduced to another female whose praises I can gladly sing -- a self- aware, tousled platinum blond wildchild, Sie Sie Benhoff. She’s about to release her first full-length album, crammed with feisty fearless self-reflection, beaten up by love but unbroken, wanton, woozy hot-tempered tunes, recorded live in three days in Brooklyn, NY. A Texas transplant, now residing in east Hipsville, L.A. Sie Sie has been singing most of her life, started speaking in tongues at age two and stopped playing it safe a long time ago. “I just came out of the vagina singing,” Sie Sie tells me in her raspy drawl, “I never really had any choice in the matter. It’s my outlet, which often isn’t fun, but it has to come out some kind of way. I consider my songs redemption songs.” Raised all over the world with her missionary Pentecostal parents, Sie Sie sang the gospel until age 17 when she realized the people in West Africa didn’t need saving. “I closed my eyes and sang the universal word, Hallelujah for about fifteen minutes straight, and when I looked up I saw everyone in the tent with their faces on the ground. I had an awakening moment you could call a denouncement of my faith. They were fine before I got there! I was done.” Despite the promise of hellfire damnation, Sie Sie set her own course, dove
into the deep end for awhile, and is now releasing her anger and angst through her music. “I was too crazy. I sometimes say to myself, ‘OK bitch, cool. Take it easy!’ The first record I ever heard was Dylan’s Slow Train Coming. Just recently I realized how it really shaped me. I’ve been praying again, ‘please get me out of bed.’ The good news is now I feel I have a purpose. I know what is truly
important to me; I have an ability to provoke emotion, and helping
people feel is my main objective.” Veering from a throaty howl to little girl longing, Sie Sie pleads, demands, cajoles, and admits she’s “off her rocker,” with aching old soul aplomb and unfettered awareness. Americana/gospel/rock, whatever you decide to call her music, Sie Sie’s songs will crack your heart open wide and maybe even heal it. “I just never hold back,” Sie Sie says, “My boyfriends tell me to tone it down. ‘I like it when you’re a little more modest.’ Baby, that's not me. Sometimes I’m bleeding and I feel that thing – I’m bloodthirsty, so watch out. "

The debut album from English Words, Red Potion, is a 33 minute collage of new wave and 80's alternative, with 70's synth ambience, bursts of neo-psychedelia and even a hint of Britpop. It all gets pieced together to form a singular vision of original and contemporary DIY pop music, riddled with hooks. The band includes primary songwriters Aaron Crane (synths/sampler/drum machine) and his brother Ryan (vocals), with essential collaborators Todd MacLean (synths), Andrew Murray (guitars), and Thayne Campbell (bass). 

Produced by Holy Fuck bassist Matt McQuaid, Red Potion was recorded at the Old Confidence Lodge in Riverport, Nova Scotia by Diego Medina, and mixed by Stew Crookes at Stewdio in Toronto. All 10 songs, reverbed, delayed, and neatly crunched, feel like a high speed tunnel drive with the top down - gusty vortexes of moving air, dark mystery at the centre, racing towards the light at the end. The music layers creative, punchy rhythms with stylish synth lines, efficiently placed guitar, modest bass drops, and a pallet of unlikely samples which include Pakistani surf rock, movie dialogue, and low-fi 90's indie rock. The songs can be weighty at times, but never off-putting and never feigning pathos. There’s a distinct sounding shrug in the lyrics and vocals, and enough musical anti-drama to keep things from getting too heavy. Red Potion shifts gears between fully charged electro rock, woozy after-hours ballads, and spacey experimental pop, allowing it to resonate during personal listens and in more gregarious settings, as reflected in both the band’s live show and the club-stomping lead single "People I Love". The record was influenced, either sonically or in spirit, by a list of childhood heros which includes New Order, DJ Shadow, David Bowie, early 80's era REM, and the Replacements, along with more contemporary works from Animal Collective and Deerhunter. 

Preceding their debut effort, English Words played tightly wound, guitar-and-drum based indie rock. A four song EP, Customer Appreciation, was released in early 2010 which saw the band’s single "Rope" climb CBC Radio 3's R30 chart. The band, both as English Words and former moniker Smothered In Hugs (a name stolen from a Guided By Voices song) have played countless shows at home in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and have frequently toured Eastern Canada playing POP Montreal, NXNE, and the Halifax Pop Explosion.

Red Potion will be released on September 18th.
