So I recently recorded this new song FOR YOU! (this time without lyrics or vocals 😉)
Just let the instruments speak and the listener will imagine and maybe interpret a declaration of love, for diversity, peace and inclusion. Because whether you like it or not, we all have to walk together on this same rock, floating in space.

Simba, the adorable cat in the picture(2015), used to live in my neighborhood, but seems to have moved into the cat world a long time ago... I wish him all the best!

I have a new song release scheduled for 13 DEC 24 called Alchemy and Stones. 

In one of my past song journal entries my word of the day was amalgam and I threw in the word alchemy for good measure.  During the lyric building process for this song my brain seemed to be still heavily steeped in the essence of these words. They were percolating through my thought streams. Much of the lyrical content contains imagery associated with this chemistry of the past and its mythic symbols. Our messy world provided additional ingredients that fell into the steaming crucible and began to round out this song into its final state.

There were four different songs that fed my creative spark and development process.  They were the following:

Spoon: Wild
James McMurtry: Canola Fields
Fruit Bats: Waking Up in Los Angeles
Taylor Swift: Anti-Hero

Deep bow of gratitude to all these artists.  My primary reference for the arrangement was Wild and it had the deepest structural influence on the song. The McMurtry song helped me hit on an idea for the chorus melody that seemed to stick with me and I liked his vocal delivery and cadence. The Fruit Bats was really not used at all but I loved the ohhhs in the chorus and wanted to find a way to emulate the laid back ease of them in my song.  However, my particular song style, tempo and arrangement just never allowed an entry point. The Fruit Bats song did keep the juices flowing though so that is why it still receives honorable mention in this write-up.

Finally, the  song by Taylor Swift: Anti-Hero did have a role in my song believe it or not.  If you listen to one of the synths you will hear a gated pumping sound courtesy of an Auto Pan and a Phaser-Flanger Plug-in. I really should thank a Music Producer named Ill Factor for teaching me the sound design process here. He demonstrated the technique in a YouTube video. Pretty cool.  As I have said before, I learn something new in every new song I build.  It is always deeply enjoyable for me. I also appreciate you for leaning in and listening. I wish you all the very best.

The Righteous Brothers were one of the most inspiring music acts to me growing up in the 60’s. I always dreamed of singing like Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield  and this song is one of their numerous classics of the era. Written by Cynthia Well and Barry Mann, I made a raw iPhone recording and simply added some harmony vocals, complete with living room noises and generally lo-fi ambience. But I thought it captured my passion for those times and those dreams of my younger days. Dedicated to the yellow roses...

Soul & Inspiration (Righteous Brothers cover)

If I Fell is a song by The Beatles which first appeared in 1964 on the album A Hard Day's Night. It was written primarily by John Lennon and credited to Lennon–McCartney. "That's my first attempt at a ballad proper. ... It shows that I wrote sentimental love ballads way back when", John Lennon stated in his 1980 Playboy interview. 
The song stood out for me when I first listened to that Beatles album back in 1964 and it remains one of my all-time favourite tracks. During my career, working in schools, I attempted on two occasions, with two different choirs, to tackle this song with a large singing group. On both occasions, I was unhappy with the way it was sounding and eventually scrapped it from the programme. With these frustrations in mind it became a “must" for my recording list when I retired. Abby Strickland is, once again, the vocalist I chose for this important song. I wanted it to sound different from the original Beatles version but every time I tried something unusual, it just didn’t work. I asked Abby to try and keep the original harmonies on the vocals. I changed the key and slowed down the tempo a little. I also added a little piano to the introductory bars. In the end the changes weren’t that significant but I am still happy with the finished version.


If I Fell

Hello! Iam an amateur singer/songwriter with a lot of passion for singing and Music.  I mostly sing originals,  but also covers . I like to write lyrics with meaning, something people can relate to. Not necessaraly my own experiences, it can be something i heard, seen or something someone  told me.
I also make music in GarageBand with small loops I put together. 
I am very impressed with how many talented people there is on Soundcloud! And so much love and kindness!
