SAVAMASULI

This composition attempts to convey the challenges of memory recall from a fleeting thought that occurs during conversation to cognitive impairment not uncommonly experienced at elderly stages of our lives.

The piece starts in AbMinor and moves to Gb Major with modulations and chromatic movement.

The first section is played slowly without tempo.   

The second upbeat section uses odd meters, rhythmically subdivided in groups of 2 and 3 beats (for example, 7 beats can played as 2,2,3 and verbalized as "Taka Taka Takata").  Bpm is 110 with the 16th as the note value.  Signatures are as follows: 14/16, 4/16, 14/16, 4/16, 12/16, 13/16, 7/16.

Final section repeats the first melody but played in odd meters similar to the above.

Take It In

This year I did not go on vacation. I was only 15 days at home. Fortunately there is a pool here ...

That has allowed me to listen to a lot of music and also compose more than usual.

Experimenting with FM Player 2 I found a sound that I made a chord with. The sound developed very quickly, which is unusual for me.

Imagine the incredible voice of Nathalie B20 as the song was built, but I had not proposed any collaboration.

When it was almost finished and I proposed it to her, she accepted the collaboration, which represented a double challenge for me. Mentally imagine how Nathalie would treat the song and what we could get out of it. The result is what you see here: I could not have found a better collaboration in this case.

That is why I want to thank you for the opportunity you have given me, your magnificent contribution and the patience you have shown with me.

Standin’ here  quietly, biding my time
Masked up by the supermarket waitin’ in line

A shopping cart wheel slams into the back of my heel
She does that one more time it’ll be a homicide deal. ….cue blues…

Lady there got purple hair that’s springin’ out everywhere
Nuthin’ better to do, showin’ off her new tattoo
It says “Don’t be like all the others just be the unique you”
Cool dude with the laceless shoes says all his friends got that one too.
Bald guy with the funny eyes is looking at his watch
Then pauses thoughtfully, readjusts his crotch. ….cue blues…

Now it’s just a guess, I realise, but I’m thinkin’ maybe from his size
Could it be him they say has eaten all the pies?.
There’s a real skinny guy too, down there at back of the queue
Looks like he could do with eatin’ a pie two.
Lady right in front of him ‘bout to go into labour
I can tell from here her fella’s facemask is doin’ all of us a favour. ….cue blues…

That twitchy kid from skid row ain’t no good at keepin’ quiet
I’m a-figurin’ that sugar makes up most of his staple diet.
His momma ain’t noticed he’s vibratin’ down the line
‘cause her face is in her iphone, most all of the time.
And the gappy toothed little girl with the sweet Shirley Temple curls
Is starin’ at the pie guy with the funny eyes
Who’s talkin’ over there to the billowed purple hair, and…..
Ah man this line ain’t ever goin’ anywhere….cue blues…
