When My Time is Done

When moonbeams prism starlight in a crystal grain of sand
As it slips into the ocean, from the furrow of my hand.
When warm fogs on the glaciers sit frozen by the sun
And the clock hands fuse in unison, I’ll know my time is done.

When a feather halts the rolling rock, in the shallow of its hill
While a rainbow melds to monochrome, and lunar orbits still.
As the hanging snow that fails to fall and the rivers pause their run,
With the swallows standing silently, I’ll know my time is done.

When the whispers of the moor grass take respite in the lee
And what was once myself is my lost memory of me.
When the final spark has flickered long before dawn has begun,
And the acrid mizzle sprinkles then I’ll know my time is done.

When clouds subsume the ribbons shredded scarlet in my mind.
The jaded thoughts of lamentation all that’s left behind,
As the boy soprano soft subsides, my hymn of life is sung
White horses on the Bamburgh coast will know my time is done.

When the minor keys of requiems float sweetly in the dust
The book is finally closed and bound, my history left to rust.
From chapel bells at midnight, a solitary peal is rung
The fossil tombstones weeping there will tell my time is done.

When my race from ashes to ashes and from dust to dust is won,
