Pull your head out of the stars for the accessibly-burgeoning, alt/indie project: sucks to be pluto. Quoth Childish Gambino, “That’s wordplay.” 

Now before you go back and search for double entendres or things you might have missed in that first sentence, stay with us. Due to the combined efforts of Ben Isaacs and Jacob Cupps, sucks to be pluto has emerged from its ideogenous habitat of ‘hanging out and playing music together’ to become ‘alright, it’s time to be a band.’ Both artists bring very different backgrounds to the table: metal and jazz influences, respectively. As disgusting as the hypothetical combination of the two might sound in your head, Isaacs and Cupps have aspects of the two styles into a clever and unique juxtaposition that can only be categorized as indie rock. Currently, they work towards the creation of their inaugural Extended Play, affectionately entitled CAT. the EP, which stands for (C)atharsis (A)nd (T)herapy. They also are involved in each of their schools’ music departments intending to study at any university “that will give them enough money to not be broke for the rest of [their] lives indefinitely.”

Versatility defines the band’s sound aesthetic. With both members capable of playing at least 4 instruments – including but not limited to acoustic/electric/bass guitar, drums, keys, and vocals – each are capable of writing, producing and performing on their own and all the more effectively together. They have each been involved in previous musical endeavors but believe that sucks to be pluto is “in it for the long haul” because the band members share a nearly identical set of beliefs, goals, and aspirations. Broadly, their common desire is to enter into the music industry as professionals: with goals ranging from as grandiose as selling out Red Rocks Amphitheatre to as humble as leading worship in youth ministry in the church world. Either way, sucks to be pluto is their first food into a career path which they wholeheartedly desire to pursue.

Atlas are a six-piece progressive indie band from North West England. From their orchestral arrangements, grandiose guitars, and superlative song-craftsmanship, if you've never attended an Atlas show, then you've never seen anything quite like Atlas. 

Long considered one of the North West's most promising underground indie bands, this collection of supremely talented musicians are ready to enter the national consciousness with their new line-up and their upcoming debut album.

Six years, two EPs and numerous line-up changes have seen the band finally get where they want to be, with a line-up littered with some of South Cumbria's finest musical talent and an album to rival any indie release you'll hear this year, 2013 should be an exciting year for a band who have performed at the renowned music festival Kendal Calling twice, supported top Scottish rockers Idlewild, and even been personally invited by Embrace's Danny McNamara to perform at his is Moho club night in Manchester. 

Founder members Paul (vocals) and Kris Coulton (guitars) are joined by former drum prodigy Jonny Shields, experienced keyboardist Mark McClinchey, bassist James Chesters and concert violinist Ben Simon, in creating a genre-spanning sound that is at the same time both atmospheric and infectious. 

The past year has been a huge leap forward for Atlas, having recorded their debut 11-track album at the Adelphi Studios in Salford with engineer Joe Meekums (Everything Everything, Twisted Wheel), and also playing two of their biggest shows to date at the Manchester Academy 3 and Liverpool's legendary Cavern Club. It's a year that has also seen multi-instrumentalist Kris drafted in to perform on BRIT Award-nominated Guillemots' upcoming new record.

So now you know what Atlas is about, be sure to catch them as they head out across the UK looking to put their name on the musical map.

Vigil and Thieves is a Kansas City alternative quartet, better defined as "loud and pretty," that formed in early 2014. Previously described as “grandiose” with a “heartbreaking heaviness,” the band has honed in on dynamic and lyrically-driven song structures that have been compared to live poetry. Their debut album, [defective] book one, was released in September 2014, followed by an east coast tour in support. Their sophomore EP, Neverland, was released in June 2016 and embodies every adventure the band has collectively taken part in, while a summer 2017 tour laid down the stepping stones for a brand new chapter with the single release of "heroin & automobiles." The band has since received high praise from notable publications and organizations including Tattoo.com, I Heart Local Music, Liberty Press, CAMP Kansas City, Curve Magazine, Midwest Music Foundation, Dying Scene, and more. Look out for spring and summer tour dates as Vigil and Thieves head to Nashville to record their debut full-length in at The Record Shop with producer John Burke in April 2018.

Born under the influences of groups like Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, and Queens of the Stone Age, Minneapolis-based One False Move bestows intricate song construction with unexpected progressions upon its listeners’ ears.  The band formed in 2011 when bassist Jon Fischler and drummer Justin Fischler fused with guitarist Robert Ellis and grandiose lead vocalist/guitarist Adam Johnson following the dissolution of their former band, Empty Set.  One False Move is a hard rock/stoner/grunge group that features a rhythm section which showcases bone-shaking bass tones and intensely driven rock drums, not unlike those of the Nirvana-era Dave Grohl.  Ellis layers in guitar work that is versatile, rich, and soulful, and their sound is capped off by robust, theatrical vocals provided by Johnson.  Elements of metal, punk, progressive rock, and classic rock surface as well, combining to form a soundscape that is wholly unique.

One False Move executes shows that are high-energy, engaging and thoughtfully crafted.  Fans leave coveting more, adrenaline still singing through their veins.  

With the release of their self-titled EP in February 2013, One False Move has unleashed six distinct tracks whose filigree is notable.  The album starts off with punk rock-inspired, funkified “Cashed” before transitioning into “Frozen” – a bona fide head-banging hard rocker.  The mood lightens momentarily with the palatable “Make It Better,” but immediately dives back into the darker recesses of the band’s repertoire with the groovy-smooth “Fatal Mistake.”  After digging into the bass-and-drum-driven “#11,” the album is capped off by “Gunshy,” a dark and stormy ballad featuring Jon Fischler on lead vocals that leaves the listener pining for more.

The band is currently set to release their sophomore effort in September, 2015.

Some people say that the most grandiose ideas come to drunken head. I assure you, Animal Within - is not exception!

$n€åK¥ is a huge presence both physically (6’5 with lower-back length red hair) and in terms of the energy he exudes. He’ll be the first person you notice in a room at a cool Pittsburgh show/party as he crowd surfs over your head. Most known for his high-flying, explosive live performances; he has opened up for acts as diverse as the Flaming Lips, Wiz Khalif, Matt and Kim, Yo Majesty!, Chairlift, Flosstradamus, People Under the Stairs, Electric Six and even Wang Chung.

If forced by threat of water boarding to describe his sound $n€åK¥ will confess to being an amalgamation of: Andrew WK, Prince, Wayne Coyne, André 3000, Jim Morrison, George Clinton, Jesus, Buddha, Bruce Lee on acid, from the future, in a parallel universe with a very high cosmological constant, but more so in vibe than actual sound cocktail.

Pulling more influence from art movements (esp. Dada, Beat, Fluxus, and Pop Art), theoretical physics, and ancient yoga texts than the staggering array of music he constantly consumes (right now: obsessing over The Beach Boys’ Smile) $n€åK¥ crafts sound tapestries in the context of popular music that remanufactures into something new, different, and at times very much “out-there”. 

$n€åK¥ turns life into art like every single day. For nearly a decade he’s been occupying a huge warehouse space where he’s ran a recording studio, thrown epic rollerskating parties [www.youtube.com/user/TheHoodGangTV?blend=19&ob=5#p/a/u/4/vZPb8yTwPSs], built indoor zip-lines, and where he now teaches yoga. Oh if those walls could talk! They’d talk some shit.This space reflects the full-time devotion to art/divergent thinking characterized in his music. 

$n€åK¥ boycotts gasoline (he rides his bicycle everywhere, and keeps it local), natural gas (brrrrr), television, fast food, malls, suburbs, and microwaves. Beyond music, beyond art, far beyond the social network popularity media manipulation contest we call the current mutation of the “music industry”–$ñ€åK¥ is on a quest to discover new truths about the nature of the universe, become a mystic, and be a prominent factor in making the world a better place. Since having an epiphany during a transcendent experience at The Flaming Lips’ Bonnaroo 2007 performance, $n€åK¥ has intensified this journey to evoke the human race to evolve. 

$n€åK¥ is a lightning rod for creative energy and people. This fact is amplified by the talent assembled on the EP’s remixes. Pittsburgh’s most talented producers are represented such as Melosun (aka Comic Strips), RSK, BWS label-head Ag Ag Lady, and high school phenomenon Boyfindery. One of $n€åK¥’s more useful super-powers is the ability to bring remarkable individuals together and provoke them to create.


The new EP I Look Like $ñ€åK¥ released on Brokewhore records is as versatile, interesting, weird, and appealing as the man himself. With songs ranging from party to experimental rap, electro punk and synth pop and employing tropes from electronic sub-genres such as glitch, juke, dub step, bounce, electro-house, freestyle and minimal techno the album is a reflection of how textured and varied the Pittsburgh music scene is.

The lead single “I Look Like Lil B” combines most of the influences mentioned above and sticks-and-moves from the stance of a Soldier Boy-esque swag-rap context. From this point of departure, $n€åK¥ freaks this sub-genre out to the boarders of something resembling Chicago juke. It kind of sounds like a poltergeist provoked panic attack or spitting rap down the rabbit’s hole. The premise of the song is essentially a reaction and partial tribute to fellow odd ball Lil B [www.npr.org/blogs/therecord/2011/01/27/133245953/lil-b-understanding-raps-new-rebel] and lyrically dives head first into a magic mirror of ego analysis, absurdist self-grandiose martyrdom, point-of-view channel surfing, and other decadent pop culture amusements. Yeah, go ‘head, tweet about it, custy. 

“Make Noise” is an older track which features ex-girlfriend and collaborator Juliet Bey aka Powell that got specially refitted with some sub treatment for this occasion. This track is greatly informed by contemporaries such as The Death Set, Juiceboxxx, Best Fwends, and Ninjasonik all of which $n€åK¥ had shared a stage and drank 40’s with; no doubt.

“How to Party” features a verse from long time collaborator and fellow front man from $n€åK¥’s first band, the undisputed most partyingest band, cult legends, the Høød Gåñg. Probably the most get hype track on the album, it’s propelled by a driving, shape-shifting beat and samples a traditional African music vinyl, Chris Farley, and New Kids on the Block. Clearly $n€åK¥ and Drunk Monkey know how to party, kids. Take notes.

Sure a bunch of knuckleheads have thought themselves slick by sampling the irresistible Willow Smith hit, but none have ventured down such slippery slopes of the unconventional. All such efforts are trumped by “Hair”. One part show tune, one part Lil Wayne meets David Blaine, one part down the center of $n€åK¥’s scalp between some 32inches of fire-mane. Ripe with puns and homophones, this song is an autobiographic love letter to $n€å¥’s hair. 

Do you believe in time travel? $n€åK¥ does. He is slowly refining his techniques via a regular, dedicated Bikram ¥oga practice and astral launching, the old fashioned way. I mean really who better to inform us about the latest trends than someone several seasons ahead of us. “I’m From the Future” is a love story of sorts; boy meets girl, boy losses girl, boy time-travels back to save the relationship, upon arrival realizes what an incredible waste of time the whole ordeal has been, and can’t remember what reality was like before forever altering the space-time continuum. The nightmarish turmoil that all would-be Doc Browns must face after they fall off the toilet, hit their head, and conceive their take on the flux capacitor. Who among us can’t relate?

In closing, I Look Like $n€åK¥ is undoubtedly one of the most important releases in these early end days. So do yourself and those you love a solid, fuck with it, or risk being eternally boring. This is what democracy looks like. Believe it.

“This shit a hit and it’s RADIOACTIVE!” 

When a new artist hits the scene, they are loved, hated, or simply ignored.  Meet emerging Atlanta-based entertainer, SEAN-CHRISTOPHER.  In his words, “You can love me.  You can hate me.  But you damn sure can’t ignore me.” Relatively new to the music scene, SEAN-CHRISTOPHER is the quintessential total package: singer, rapper, songwriter, & dancer.  

This Little Rock, Arkansas, native is definitely a student of the game and fame.  After a chance encounter with the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, at the age of 11, SEAN-CHRISTOPHER became completely engulfed with music and pop stardom.  While accomplishing many scholastic achievements in high school, SEAN-CHRISTOPHER began honing his talents initially as a dancer and stage actor.  After moving to Atlanta, Georgia, to attend Oglethorpe University on an academic scholarship, Sean began dancing professionally and appeared on hit shows ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars’.  He has not only been recognized by judges and audiences alike, but has been remembered and stood out in a crowd as a star.

Even though dancing and performing were his most recognizable passions to his peers, SEAN-CHRISTOPHER secretly spent countless hours in his bedroom listening to music and composing songs. “At that time, dancing was my wife but the ‘pen’ was my mistress.  And she won.” The art and integrity of songwriting is paramount to SEAN-CHRISTOPHER.  Each word has an organic purpose.  Each verse has a distinct intention.  Each song has a defined message.  They ooze into your soul and are instantly fixated in your head.  Sean paints aural, intoxicating masterpieces with one simple goal—for each song to be a bona fide HIT.  “I’m obsessed with creating an album greater than ‘Thriller’.  Every song on that [album] was not only brilliant but, without a doubt, a radio smash.  Until I can craft an album where every song is a killer, then I have failed as an artist.”   

SEAN-CHRISTOPHER’s approach to music is drawn from his love and admiration for his eclectic, wide array of influences.  “Most of my inspiration comes from music out of the 70’s, 80’s, & 90’s. I love funk.  I adore pop.  I hunger for hip-hop.  But I live for R&B.” Sean grew up listening to the emotional driven records of Ray Charles and Donny Hathaway and the soulful melodies of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.  The brashness of George Clinton and 2Pac captivated him and the breakthrough visual imagery of Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson showed him how to entertain.  He idolized the stage presence of Tina Turner and James Brown and the revolutionary artistry of Madonna and Prince.  “No one moves me more than Prince.  God gave him everything.  He has a 4 octave voice, writes, dances, self-produces, and plays all of the instruments on his recordings.  ‘Genius’ isn’t a big enough word to describe him.”   

As an only child, music videos were Sean’s brothers and sisters. “Literally, I grew up on them.  It used to be an event when a new video came out on MTV or BET.  During the late 80’s and 90’s, your music video was almost more important than your song.  Now you can barely get the music stations to play a full video.  But today, most artists don’t make videos worth watching.”  After his father bought him a VCR and set of VHS tapes, Sean began taping as many videos as he could.  He would study and analyze them; learning all of the choreography in the process.  Even as an independent artist, SEAN-CHRISTOPHER believes that what separates him from his contemporaries is his ability as a consummate entertainer.  Expensive budgets, top notch directors, exclusive locations, and popular cameos aren’t needed by this artist.  “I want to revolution music videos like Michael Jackson, Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson, Madonna, and Missy Elliott did in their prime years.”

Produced by Victor V-DUB Warren and featuring CLM Group rapper Kusdem, SEAN-CHRISTOPHER’s debut single “ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM” can be best described as a grandiose, fiery male response to every female anthem in recent history.  The R&B and pop-fused track serves as an introduction to the artist’s first musical offering entitled “The RadioACTIVE EP” set to debut in August 2012.
