The title of the song is in reference to Elephant Man, a true story of a person who was judged and maltreated exclusively because of his appearance. It is essential to remember that not all disabilities are visible to the eye but that does not mean they are not a reality.

A pure relationship once in existence has now been overcome by temptations to “grow up”, break away from all that was dear. It’s about one who is willing to sacrifice their friendship for self-worship, societal praise, power, and idols of success. But that comes at a tragic cost of a lost friendship and a mourning forgotten friend. “friends” was mixed by Paul Walton (Birdy, No Doubt, Bjork, The Cure, U2).
