On the day that Udio was released to the public, I started experimenting and this was the first song I made. The inspiration was one of my favorite bands and I was quite shocked that Udio created a song so similar to the original. 

After uploading this to YouTube to my "Andrea Fryer" channel, it gained quite a bit of attention and was written about in several articles including The Rolling Stone magazine as well as others. Someone also said in the YouTube comments that it had been played on Dutch radio to see if people could be fooled with AI.

Although the song generated a lot of hateful comments, it also garnered quite a lot of positive attention as well which inspired me to create more songs. 

After 5 songs had been made, YouTube removed account. It's still unclear as to whether it was because of these songs or because of one of my other channels. But I lost everything. 

After a while I created a new channel, this time with no mention of the inspiration band which I will not mention here either. All you need to know is that it has been fully generated in Udio except that I faded it out manually towards the end.

Since people have been begging me to add the song here, here ya go. I will not be putting it up on Spotify however since I refuse to monetize these "band inspired" songs as it would feel unethical.

For the record, I never named this song "Like a Mystery" - in fact, since it started out as a mere Udio experiment, I never even gave the song a name originally! Instead German newspapers and magazines that made articles about it somehow decided that's what the name was. I guess they grabbed it from the lyrics or something. :-o  The name is super cringe, but I've decided to keep it to help people find this once again!

WHAT I LIKE: The overall vibe is wonderful. Dark, moody, serious, melodic. Just how I like it. Although the lyrics are corny, I really love the spot 0:55 where he sings "You sway, but I'm persistent". And it's cool how he sings "I'm" in a slightly different way which gives that human feel to the singing. Hard to imagine it's AI. Another subtle detail I like are the percussions that start at 2:38. And of course the last sung portion has such a great melody!

WHAT I DON'T LIKE: With the last sung portion, I believe the lyrics were garbled because I might have told Udio to make that part instrumental and at the time, the software had issues with forcing singing into instrumental bits. So that's why we can't quite make out what he's singing because it's just random AI mush. I also don't like how short the song is. But at the time, Udio had real issues with being able to make repeating sections like choruses. Instead, as you added new bits onto the initial clip, it kept on creating new melodies and styles that didn't match the initial part. So once I had gotten to that ending portion I felt it was safest to just fade it out at that point. Many people have been wishing for an extended version. I obviously still have my Udio files so I might just do that, now that we have new tools for extending in the software.

WHAT I LIKE:
I love the super dark beginning of the song with the bass. Also at the ending with the piano coming in at 3:26 is kind of cool. For the visuals, as I listened to the final song I felt like images of a goth couple exploring a post-apocalyptic world together hand in hand would be cool and I think the visuals fit the song well.

WHAT I DON'T LIKE:
In this song Udio generated it's own lyrics. So it's surprising and unfortunate that it didn't seem to get the pacing of them matched up with the melody very well in the beginning, and was almost cramming the words together by force. It almost sounds like rapping! In general, Udio really filled the whole song with way too much lyrics and singing for my taste. In general, making this song was a huge struggle and it took me 2 days to make it because I had to generate SO SO many clips before I got to an end result that was at least half reasonable. Also, at this time Udio still had the "glitch sound" issue which you can hear at 1:37. Also not a fan of how Udio kept "reinventing" the song as I added more portions onto it. Although some people have said they like it and that it feels like the song evolves into this huge build up. Which I can see.

THE GOAL: This was the first time I thought about intentional lyrics versus just letting Udio create whatever lyrics it wanted. So I imagined a song about a man who cannot forget a woman he was obsessed with, but who had passed away long ago, and how she haunts his soul. I asked ChatGPT for lyrics like that and it produced pretty corny ones. I told it: "Less corny!" and it understood what I meant and made better ones which you hear in this version.

WHAT I LIKE: The dark rhythmic beginning of the song before the singing starts. The way this song gives me shivers and chills. My favorite part of the song starts at around 0:56 and just gets better from there. I also love the soaring high pitched wailing synth that starts at 2:34 and which continues for the rest of the song. Aaahhh so good! Although I didn't prompt for it, Udio decided to insert that vague singing in the background towards the end at 3:07 which really suited the ending well! 

WHAT I DON'T LIKE: At 2:00 you will hear this glitchy sound repeat. That was not intentional, rather a bug that Udio had at the time (which apparently has now been fixed). Originally the file had a silent spot in the first glitch, so then I copied the next glitch sound onto the silent spot in Audacity. When you listen to the song now, you would assume it's an intentional design of the song, but no - it's actually a glitch!

THE GOAL: I wanted a song that gave the perspective of the remaining creatures that inhabited the earth after an apocalypse. So I asked ChatGPT for lyrics like that and then fed them into Udio. What is quite funny is that despite the depressing lyrics, Udio created a rather upbeat poppy song. So when I started thinking about what kinds of images I will make, the rats and mice felt like a good idea as the "remaining survivors". And some of them (2:46) are so darned cute!

WHAT I LIKE: The little breath at 1:35. The fact that it gets my foot going. My favorite part of the song starts at 2:11 (probably because it's more somber and serious than the perky beginning). The ending of the song with the "I am free" lyrics was a cool way AI handled it!

WHAT I DON'T LIKE: It's a bit too perky and boppy for my taste. I'm very much about solemn melancholy melodies. I don't like that super intense synth that overpowers the song at 2:34. It would have been fine if it would have been more subtle. I kept it however because otherwise that portion was so great and didn't want to lose it after having spent hours and hours of generating clips that had not worked with the song before.

THE GOAL: I started off generating lyrics for a love song in ChatGPT about a couple being alone in their love yet entwined together. Starting with the second verse, put that into Udio and hoped for a nice melody when this one finally popped up. Although I much prefer a moodier darker melody, there was still "something" about this that wanted me to continue working on it.

WHAT I LIKE: 
Even though this is a happier and poppier song than I'd normally go for, the melody does grow on you the more you listen to it. I found myself listening to it on repeat without getting tired of it. I should have probably made it a bit longer, but didn't want it to get repetitive. My favorite part is probably the ending with "Obscuuuuuuuuuuure" and the soaring synths and piano as it fades out. Leaves you wanting more. 

WHAT I DON'T LIKE: 
It's rather plain and generic like meat and potatoes versus a gourmet dish. And the lyrics are so corny once again. Although I do really like the lyrics at 1:05 "Your eyes like a tempest, stormy and deep"

THE GOAL: I was starting to get tired of the endless dark love songs so I opted for a more political theme this time and asked ChatGPT to get to work with some lyrics. Udio has a new inpainting option that allows you to select a section and regenerate it. Used that quite a bit with this song. The goal with the images was to portray a stereotypical human politician start off with a pristine suit, then slowly as they morph into pigs, their clothes get more and more tattered, finally becoming innocent pigs free to roam the lands.

WHAT I LIKE: 
The beat and melody! It's really hard not to tap your foot to this tune! It's catchy! Love the melody of the whistling high pitched synth that starts at 0:16. WHAT I DON'T LIKE:

THE GOAL: I've had so many people complain that the original was too short and they'd like to see an extended version. So here ya go! I'm not a musician, so this is done only on my own perception of what extended songs are supposed to sound like. Udio does not let us cut middle portions other than inpainting them to replace that bit with something else. So to give some variation I tried very hard to inpaint some of the inner portions of the original, but was not able to get any sufficiently interesting or good results so I just let it be.The main differences from the original is in the intro and all of the stuff that comes after. I hope that you can enjoy it regardless! Other than the fresh intro, the new stuff mostly starts at 3:24.

WHAT I LIKE: After listening to the original a million times already, it was refreshing to hear the verses and choruses with new lyrics. (in the latter part of the song)

WHAT I DON'T LIKE: I wish I could have made changes to the original chunk.
