The Story of Pendle Witches is sad tail. The Devil rides out? Mass hysteria in 1612? Or Rich men pandering to their new King who had already written a book on Witches? There are many sides to the story and novels new and old to tell them. In all 10 people were hanged because Alizon had asked a Tinker (John Law) for a little pin one night. He said no, then something happened that led to his illness. From there it escalated.

So this is my song of Alizon Device, I hope I have worded this song as ambiguously as I can. Alizon confessed, but do we all agree that she was capable of unpressured confession? She had a hard life and did not have many capabilities to create income. So this is a little of her story as I imagine it and a little bit of folk rock into the bargain.

The tune was inspired after seeing Martin Simpson this weekend in Blakeney. Try a different tuning he suggested. CGCGCD... I'm sure that's what he said.

I'm working on a couple of other songs on this topic (The Song of James the 1st and the Song of Alice Nutter). I hope they'll all have different feels to them. If you have suggestions let me know.

The Song Of Alizon Device (Pendle Witch Song No 1)

I decided to let loose with this crazy idea of stringing a bunch of very crude home recordings together, complete with all sorts of background noises and family banter. They were all recorded on my iPhone next to my kitchen where my wife and daughter sound like they must have been building a house! I also quickly added some rough harmonies to create some depth on the original recordings. These are some of my favorite country and country/folk songs of all time and I hope someone will enjoy taking this 16-minute journey with me, just sitting around the kitchen sharing some classic tunes. Each song covered is just a brief snippet of the original, usually no more than a minute each, and i took some liberties in how I sampled each one....

And now our "Croisière du monde" album with Roberto B (@user-55822457 and @robertoiib) comes to an end, with its concluding 11th track, "Le naufrage" - or, in English translation, "The Shipwreck". We hope you'll enjoy this composition of ours as well as our whole collaborative album, which will be released here on SoundCloud in minutes.

The track was created in collaboration on 5 October 2021 (initial mix and recording in MAGIX by Roberto B), 25 November 2021 (subsequent additions, mix and recording in GarageBand and Logic Pro by Alex M), 26 November 2021 (another mix by Alex M in Logic Pro) and 27 November 2021 (final mix in MAGIX by Roberto B), and posted on SC on 11 December 2021 (by Alex M).

The artwork cover for the album and all its constituent tracks was designed and implemented by Alex M on 29 June 2021 (in Tayasui Sketch in Mac OS), cropped by Alex M (in Mac OS Preview) on 30 June 2021, and annotated with text by Alex M (in Mac OS Preview) on 2 October 2021 - in coordination and agreement with Roberto B.
