Next Life

In the downtown city streets raced a yellow sportscar. From the driver's side emerged a man lacking the happiness he truly wanted. In his suit and tie, he walked to his office ready for another day of office work. Everyone praised him repeatedly for his work ethic. Deep down the man knew he was an extremely hard worker, but something felt wrong that day. 

Writing down his signature on a few important work documents, the pen he was using exploded. Ink dripped everywhere because it was a brand new pen. Frustrated, he got up to try and salvage what he could. He scoured his computer for another copy running through his old e-mails. With some relief coming to his day, he found the old e-mail with a copy of the ruined document. Next, he just had to walk down to the other end of the building for a print since his personal one was out of commission.

With a brisk pace, he made his way passing a few other coworkers in transit. He caught the eye of a woman he was quite fond of. Unaware to him, she found him to be very attractive. She rarely let this on in conversation. Years of working together seeing his work ethic made him out to be a potential partner in her mind. 

Thoughts passing the man's mind on his way to the printer included mostly of how tired he was of his job. He worked so hard, yet could not even manage to feel confident enough talking to the woman he cared for. The printer was there right in front of him. He noticed there were a few errors going on. Rummaging through the nearby cabinet some toner and ink fell to the counter below. No spills. Opening up the printer hearing it take a moment to recalibrate, he fixed it and printed his document along with a few other people's documents he had to sort through. Ron C. No. Patricia D. Nope. Vincent K. Wrong last initial. Finally, grabbing his document and heading back to his office the task was complete. Fresh ink could barely be smelled as he wrote his signature. 

30 minutes had passed to sign his name. Fed up, he stormed out of his office feeling his anxiety pile up. The man could not handle the mundane tasks any longer. Nobody stopped him or noticed, not even the girl he cared for. He quit his job the next day. Shortly thereafter, he spent time working another job while working on his own business. Trying to get the word out, he began posting up flyers around the city about the product. A woman in a purple dress walked past him while he stapled contact information to a pole.

"You know, I saw you like an hour ago by Benara's Pizza. Do you really like stapling up these posters all day long?" she inquired more about his work. 

"Yeah, I do actually," he responded confidently. "I've got a nice yellow car in the lot around the corner I think you'd like. Why don't we grab some lunch?"

You can see him walking through the streets at night. He is strange. Actually he is inconspicuous. He wears a hood and underneath his overly loud headphones it sounds shrill when he walks past. He loves to meet like-minded people in dark alleys where lanterns, neon signs, loud music and voices break through the silence of the night. There it smells of urine, sweat and alcohol. He seems to be looking for something. It's probably just a little love (or trouble?).
