It's really a trip how organic a DJ Mix can come together. I have been waiting to repackage and rerelease my old "Jill Scott Mix" from nearly 10 years ago. Then my dude "Stevie B" a fantastic DJ/Producer from out of Chicago released his Fire remix of "I Need You" this afternoon so I said "Hmmmm, maybe I should do another version of Jill with some of her Oldies and some of newer lesser known bangers?" Then I realized that her Birthday is tomorrow (Which is today April 4th) so It was a done deal. "Chapter Two" was born! Jill Scott has always been so good for The Dance Floors and The Dance Floors have always loved Jill Scott. Happy Birthday "Jilly from Philly" let's do it again...

This past weekend I was invited to DJ at the "Summer Oasis" music festival in Idlewild Michigan. I haven't played this amazing event since 2019 and I literally couldn't wait to get back. "SOMF" is the brainchild of Cedric McDougle and Cedric curates an amazing event every summer, it's a weekend  filled with all types of people, from filmmakers, artists and DJ's to educators, entrepreneur's and civic leaders and everyone in between. Folks camp out in these fancy tents, a concept called "Glamping" but the thing I like most about it is, as soon I get up to Idlewild (3 hour drive north of Detroit) I absolutely feel Free! It's so interesting but many people tell me they have that exact same feeling. 

For those that don't know; Idlewild was a safe space that was nicknamed "Black Eden" in the early to mid 1900's. Black people owned lake houses and cottages and would head up north for the summer to relax and listen to the best of the best in black entertainment. Cedric moved his summer festival up to Idlewild in 2016 and it gets bigger and better every single year. This year the weatherman was forecasting big rainstorms but God had different plans for us up there in Idlewild. The weather was perfect for an outdoor clamping fest..studio, I guess I get restless. So there are quite a few songs that I played during my (3 Hour Set) at SOMF that aren't in this mix but I think you'll still feel the vibe. I tried to blend a lot of Afro-House from South Africa with the Soulful House sounds from Detroit, Chicago, NYC etc. (Full description on my YouTube)
