The first in a series of remixes from Bad Colours critically acclaimed "PINK" album comes from up and coming NYC production duo musclecars. Tackling the Hip-House vibes of "Skin To Skin", musclecars pull back and flip the track's unexpected Brazilian outro into a Bossa Nova flavoured dancefloor chugger complete with plenty of funky organ, guitar, and an infectious bassline. A proper remix that's completely original and inspired.

Some back story……

Often we make small sections of original tracks in a different musical genre, for fun, but mostly to sample ourselves and spin it into our more regular House Music style.

The original version of this track, which you can find here ampl.ink/VkM1G (Big thanks to the crew at DeepStitched ) started like that; a laid back, electronic collage of sounds, atmosphere and texture that grew and became a release of its own

Well, we went ahead and did a House mix anyway and it’s one of our favourite things we have done….. All the texture and atmosphere of the original but with a rough and tough beat and bass intertwined through the melodies.

We got the absolute gent that is Rob Small Mastering to fire up the tubes and valves and twist the knobs on a weighty analogue wav master (massive thanks), and on the back of a weird couple of years, we decided we wanted to make this a free download.

We really enjoyed making both versions of this track.

In association with DJ Amir’s 180 Proof Records, BBE is honoured to present another gem from the small yet significant Strata catalogue. A precursor to New York’s Strata East, Detroit’s Strata Records was founded in the late 1960s by former Blue Note artist Kenny Cox. Starting life as a music-led community organisation, coffee shop studio and venue, Strata released only a few titles as a record label, gaining the imprint a cult following among record collectors and jazz lovers across the globe.
Possibly the best known of Strata’s releases, The Lyman Woodard Organization’s ‘Saturday Night Special’ is rightly heralded as a jazz fusion classic. Recorded in 1975, ‘Saturday Night Special’ features organ, electric piano and Mellotron by bandleader Lyman Woodard alongside guitar and bass by Ron English, with drums and percussion by Leonard King, Bud Spangler & Lorenzo “Mr. Rhythm” Brown respectively. Despite the fairly sparse instrumentation, ‘Saturday Night Special’ lays down an impressive wall of sound, powerfully atmospheric in its almost low-fi aesthetic. Hinting at more traditional jazz, rhythm & blues, afro-cuban styles and more, the uniqueness of this album is surely in its feel: summoning up images of a vast industrial landscape, assembly lines and urban decay. In other words, this record sounds like Detroit.
No great album artwork is complete without a good story to match, and ‘Saturday Night Special’ does not disappoint. Snapped by photographer and political activist Leni Sinclair (responsible for seminal pictures of Miles Davis, Fela Kuti and John Coltrane and many others), the cover image shows the contents of Lyman Woodard’s pockets placed on the hotel bed after a show: cigarette papers, cash and a pistol.
Following Woodard’s death in 2009, this incredible album was reissued in highly limited numbers by Wax Poetics; now just as hard to come by as the original pressings. It’s our pleasure to make this important and influential chapter in the story of contemporary jazz available on vinyl once again.

Viers rolls through with a unique 4-track, club oriented EP entitled ‘Innocence’ for Typeless. After some previously highly acclaimed releases, the Leeds based artist reinforces his supremacy with a fiercely diverse electronic voyage.


‘EVA00’ on the A side offers up a hybrid electro-breaks infused sound with rolling basslines and euphoric melodies, encapsulating yet to be heard futuristic club cuts. Whilst ‘Douglas Descend’ adheres to a more classically punchy techno sonic with hypnotic kicks and a protruding industrial snare. B-Side’s ‘Innocence’ is a dark bass-heavy electro track that is masterfully mind-bending. The EP is then rounded off by the warehouse inspired track entitled ‘LSD’, reminiscent of big room rave settings of the 90’s.

Work had been relentless, long nights and early mornings had twisted into one. Sometimes she didn't know whether she was awake or dreaming. Maybe she was sleepwalking through reality. Though home should have been a sanctuary, a respite from the mayhem at work, yet her living situation had began to deteriorate quickly, a chaotic space that never seemed to rest. She longed for a little quiet, some time to empty her mind and refocus, but this had become something of a fantasy.

After years of personal growth and exploration Italian producer Nuel crafts Fantasia, a concept album that sees the artist becoming a 'one-man-band'. Renowned amongst underground techno circles, Nuel has been behind releases for the likes of Semantica, Kontra-Musik and Sublunar over the last 10 years, but its his quest to learn new skills and techniques that has seen him take a multidisciplinary approach to recent recordings. Fantasia finds a home on R&S' sister label Apollo and sees Nuel work with an array of instruments and obscure sound sources, fusing the organic and the synthetic for beguiling results.
