2022 has arrived and our Signals series is back. Happy new year! The first mix of the year lands courtesy of Glasgow based DJ, Producer and Label Head, Gavelman.

Gavelman had a busy 2021. His highly reputable label, Lifeforms, seen 4 releases. Included in these 4 were 2 of his own works. A single and Public House favourite, Lady Justice, and a Dutch inspired 6 track Electro slammer, Future.

The other 2 releases came from Electro staple Ekman - a harsh and hard hitting drum machine workout - and Variant, dipping into fast paced experimental techno. 2021's output showed us how exciting and varied this label is, joining the dots between different soundscapes and genres, all the while keeping rawness and experimentalism as core elements between releases. Both Gavelman and Lifeforms have some serious output in the works for 2022.

As far as DJ'ing goes, we'll let this mix do the talking. Gavelman has described this as a 'legends mix'. An hour of artists and music he holds dear. Think Electro, The Hague and punked out drum machines. Seriously good stuff.

Acidic Male

Working as a visual artist and writer, Puck Schot once felt the need to express a more masculine voice within her poetry. Curious about electronic music, she started making experiments around 2019 with the Korg MS-20, poetry on violence and distorted drum samples as Acidic Male. In that same year, she started collaborating with RJM Vanderheyden as 'Vot'ress' as well, combining harsh noise with nature sounds and Shakespearean texts. Since then, she had a high interest in industrial sounds, hypnotic drum patterns and experimental vocals. Having her performer name as a revenge title, she searches to “other” herself into the position of a manipulator, perpetrating the listener through the duality of softness and harshness within violent sounds and poetry. Yet, typically what is left is merely a penetration of herself as the subject, exposing her confessions, memories and hauntology. She is simply ripping in two, in front of an audience.

Acidic Male has an interest in industrial sounds, hypnotic drum patterns and experimental vocals. Having her performer name as a revenge title, she searches to “other” herself into the position of a poetic perpetrator. Her sounds have been described as “elegant industrial”, yet in her selections she attempts to showcase her love for genre-wide experimentalism.

A talented and unique producer, Acidic Male has been gaining recent attention for all the right reasons. A strong EP on Dead channel accompanied by a string of self released work, she is winning the ears of DJ's and labels far and wide. Look out for her upcoming record on Drug Cvltvres New York Haunted imprint. You can catch Acidic Male in the flesh at Conflux Festival this year.

🇵🇱 Ivona is a Polish born, Brooklyn based Dj with the music taste ranging from  electro, acid, ebm, techno and simmering post punk she saves for the club’s dance floor. Podcasts are where she expresses her love for abstract and experimental sound including cold wave , industrial sludge, scream core to break beat swag, hip hop and more.
