Mass Appeal Records is the label division of the burgeoning media group and creative agency, Mass Appeal. Birthed in 2014 alongside music legend Nasir “Nas” Jones, the label solidified itself as a powerful platform that shines light on DIY artists passionately upholding the foundational pillars of Hip Hop. SOL Development (Source of Light), mirrors Nina Simone’s quintessential words: an artist’s duty is to reflect the times. The band offers music to illuminate today’s cultural and political climate, matching it with a sound that allows the listener to feel empowered in finding their own activism and healing. 

The band will release their full length debut project, The SOL of Black Folk: Of The Dawn of Freedom in Feb 22 2019. The album title pays homage on W.E.B Du Bois’ The Souls of Black Folk and specially connected to his chapter “Of the Dawn of Freedom.” The album features songs including “Helicopter,” “Source of Light,” and “Nobody”. 

Audiences who have witnessed their dynamic live performance include SXSW, Broccoli City Festival, Black Joy Parade, Blue Note NYC, Stern Grove Festival, Oakland Museum of California, Global Climate Summit, HATCH and Blackout for Human Rights: MLK Now. They have shared the stage with Yasiin Bey, Common, Yo-Yo Ma, Masego, India Arie, GZA, Jidenna, Femi Kuti and many more.

Eden Hagos is an Eritrean-American DJ, producer, and all-around creative force bringing visibility to the genre-defying future sounds shaping the next wave of music. Deeply rooted in underground hip-hop, sample-based production, percussion-heavy rhythms, and future bass, Eden’s unique ear has kept her digging since the day her uncle gifted her a Fugees album at age 16.

With over 20 mixtapes under her belt, Eden’s third installment, Currently, caught the attention of Okayplayer, who dubbed her “a prophet of future sounds.” Her work resonated deeply within the beat scene, sparking collaborations with artists, labels, and community connectors across the creative spectrum.

Driven by a passion for culture and connection, Eden has performed everywhere from underground clubs to international festivals and high-profile fashion events. She’s shared stages with the likes of Snakehips, Anderson .Paak, JMSN, Syd tha Kid, TOKiMONSTA, Sango, and GoldLink — just to name a few.

Eden Hagos is on a mission to spotlight the beatmakers behind the movement — educating, unearthing, and amplifying the many genres that live within these future sounds.
