Red Skies At Night

If there's no reason to dislike or cold-shoulder someone, people will often invent one. Diamonds in the Snowlight are the erroneous beliefs some people have, thinking others are better off than they are. The piano parts convey snowflakes in a blizzard against bitterly cold scenery (the metaphorical Winter we all have to battle sometime in our lives). A song about exclusion & being frozen out due to envy or mistaken perceptions.

I wrote this song about a woman I met in a cafe long time ago.  She walked in wearing hot leather shorts, a fringed leather jacket and these ultra thigh high boots.  I was sitting with my daughter speaking with two other fellas there and one of the guys goes "Oh my God."  And she saw us and came right over and sat down.  They knew each other.  She was so cool and even though she was older - I believe she told me she was 57 - she looked amazing.  We talked for a minute, but I never got her name.  Years later, I thought about her and wrote this song.  I just called her "Miranda" because it's a name I always liked.  Later, I found out her name was Dusty and lived in Costa Mesa, California.  If she's still alive, she would be in her 80s as of today 8/11/25.
