I wanted to do this one for a long time. All my favourite softrock classics in one continous mix, spiced up with some genre-like tunes from the here and now. 
While traveling on a german train the other day, apperently lightning struck (the sky was blue as far as I could see) causing the train to stop for several hours out in the open. While lynch mob parties began to form with the intention to take it out on the conductor, I was still mixing away with my headphones on and a stupid smile on my face - quite out of context actually. In fact I go so into it that I almost forgot to get of at Berlin main station. 
So here it is, hope you have as much fun listening as I had putting it togehter.

Bjørn Torske & Prins Thomas - Arthur

In 1984 Shina Williams & His African Percussionists dropped the Nigerian disco funk bomb “Agboju Logun” presenting a rolling percussion beat paired with a unresistable groovy bassline. 

One who depends on inheritance offers themselves up to poverty, so goes the Yoruba proverb “Agboju Logun”. Shina Williams & his band of funksters reflect on that pearl of wisdom in this ace African disco groover. With a rockin’ Afrobeat backbone, it’s one of the best examples of Lagos’ fertile, cross-cultural scene in the 1970s. 

Even in the early 80’s the genius of this track was recognized as it was compiled on the ‘Fresh n Up’ album released in the UK by Jungle Rhythm along with some hip hop and electro tracks. The original on Earthworks is not easy to track down, but Strut comp’d it back in 2001 on “Nigeria 70 (The Definitive Story of 1970's Funky Lagos)”.

The Fitzcarraldo Variations "Mediteraneans"

The city was a beautiful metropolis packed with colour and bright lights. Hotel Jama was at the forefront of cultural society and had become a place in which many came to socialise and watch the world upon a luxurious Friday evening. Drinks flowed and pretty people marched importantly past the glass windows. Inside it was warm and comfortable as she sipped her drink from a long straw... The ceiling was a bubblegum pink and the walls were painted blue, much like the nature of her soul. 

Ichisan is set to release a new assortment of reworks on the prolific Bordello A Parigi record label. A colourful affair with exciting musicality, twists and turns. Oh, and a harpsichord.

I own a vinyl copy of  the orignal edit by dunno-who. Eddy starts off after 4 bars and it has an endless percussion/beat outro. I always thought it should be the other way round. No fx's, just scissors :-) and a bit rough around the edges.

Senegalese kora master Sourakata Koité began music from pretty much day one. "All the Koité are musicians!,” he says. Indeed he is a member of a family of djéli (or griot in french), the hereditary caste of musician-storyteller-historians in West Africa. After moving to Paris in the late 70s he began to play in different bands and for musicians like Manu Dibango, Touré Kounda, Mangala, Mah Damba and more. During a festival in Holland, a music producer form Plexus Records heard him and asked to make a recording. In 1984 in an old chicken coop near Delft, Koité recorded the entire album in one take, including overdubs. The rich sonics and deep sound beautifully presents Koité’s virtuosic and entrancing renditions of traditional and original tunes. With the reissue of en Hollande, Awesome Tapes From Africa continues its mission of bringing tapes posted on the ATFA website over the years, including this one, to music fans all over the world.
