We are thrilled to host perhaps our biggest DJ yet in South Africa's, DJ Okapi. When we set out to do this show, this is the exact type of DJ we were looking to feature, someone showcasing sounds you would be sure to not hear elsewhere - even for South Africans themselves, this is some heady music. Digging up rare vinyl grooves in the city of gold, DJ Okapi brings a forgotten era of South African pop music (back) to life. Recently headlining a Boiler Room show, amongst other things, this is definitely a DJ that deserves your attention, and more importantly the music he plays is a sound that deserves your attention.

Il n'est pas de notoriété publique que sous le torrent de musique labélisée "French Touch" qui se déversera en France et sur le reste du monde dès 1990 et pour la décennie à venir, prospérait une communauté de mélomanes férus, entre autre, des sonorités deep-house américaines.

Straight-up Recordings fait partie de ces labels de l'époque qui ont émulé le temps de leur existence cette scène House française, promulguant les compositions d'artistes comme Playin' 4 The City, Dj Deep ou Franck Roger.

Avec ce focus, je souhaitais donner un léger coup de projecteur sur ce label, à mon sens peu connu mais pourtant emblématique du genre, dont les nombreuses sorties peuplent toujours les sacs et les étagères des House-heads aguerris.

For our final podcast of summer, we’re delighted to welcome our favourite Croatian music mistro Ilija Rudman. And what a perfect fit he is. Supported by well over a decade of experience working with some of the biggest names in the game, his back catalogue of releases is as extensive as it is tasteful. His releases on Nu Northern Soul, Is it Balearic?, and Rong Music are the first to spring to mind for us, not to mention releases on his own label Imogen Recordings. 

The mix acts as a smorgasbord of Ilija’s musical interests, offering up some delicious rare disco cuts, Balearic beats, analogue housey numbers and everything in between. An Adriatic breeze wafting through your lugholes, what a perfect way to close the summer season.

Dans ce premier épisode de Diggin’, nous reviendrons sur le retour annoncé de Stevie Wonder avec un décryptage de Frédéric Adrian, membre de la rédaction et auteur de la biographie Stevie Wonder aux éditions du Castor Astral. Nous évoquerons ensuite celle qui fait la couverture de notre dernier numéro, l’ambassadrice du blues Shemekia Copeland, avec une interview de notre rédacteur en chef Nicolas Teurnier.
