Life Is But A Dream

You can’t deny that there is something sorrowful behind the Bergen-based, lo-fi dream/psych pop trio Chain Wallet, and you can’t hide that their music suits the environment wherein it was created. It may be a cliché that it always rains in the band’s hometown, but when you play songs like «Faded Fight», it’s not difficult imagine the mist hanging heavily over their indie dystopian vision of Bergen. 

Even though feelings of nostalgia and melancholy lurk in the Scandinavian shadows, it’s not difficult to find indie-pop gold in its purest form, glittering below the heavy layers of synth and reverb.

The band say this about the song: In a blog, someone called our lyrics «nonsensical», and the mantra «can't you see – we're not making any sense at all» is a comment on this careless remark. It is not a love song but a portrayal of a romantic failure. It is perhaps the record’s most to-the-point pop song, with an uplifting chorus that is a stark contrast to the romantic failure. The main character has begun reaching for the moon, and we are giving the couple in the song two more weeks, maybe.

«Muted Colours», the first single from their forthcoming debut album, recieved more than 90.000 plays in just two weeks, and right now everything is pointing upwards for Chain Wallet. «Faded Fight» is available digitally from August 17, and their self titled album will be released on October 7.
