Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Peacock Followed the Hen is an old Northumbrian Smallpipes tune and song. It has lyrics too which are cryptic in parts but quite clearly talk about lust and sex. “Aal the neet ower and ower” (all night over and over) “the peacock follows the hen”. So it’s a very one-sided thing where one person is chasing or pressuring another person for sex. Normally this is interpreted as a man chasing a woman for sex.. I wasn’t a big fan of this message so I added another verse, quite cryptic again but basically saying: stop the one-sided pursuit. That’s not cool. Step back and listen to what the other person wants, have respect for their bodily autonomy and their wishes. If  it’s a two-way thing, if you listen to each other, then maybe both people can have more fun.

Hope Springs Eternal

A composition for string quartet in the style of Chaconne, a popular compositional style during the Baroque era. 

I decided to write in this style in order to practice my compositional skills as well as to channel my thoughts, hopes and worries for the times  we currently live in. 

This piece is not meant to be innovative or groundbreaking in terms of composition. It's written in order to give us hope, energy and to lift the human spirit in this time of silent suffering.

Stelios Kyriakidis (kee-ree-ah-KEE-dis) is a Greek guitarist and composer creating contemporary instrumental music that moves between intimacy, narrative, and cinematic atmosphere. His work is rooted in the expressive possibilities of the guitar, but extends beyond it, engaging with film, dance, and interdisciplinary performance.

Stelios had his music featured on BBC Radio, and has performed at London venues such as Green Note, Theatreship, and St Bride’s Church, as well as across the UK and internationally at the Somerset Jazz Festival, Sofar Sounds (Brighton & Bristol), 21st Century Guitar Conference (Indianapolis, USA), Herman Schulz Cafe (Berlin, DE) and Spiti Art Bar (Athens, GR), among others.

He has released multiple albums and EPs, including 508 Days (2023). Copenhagen, from 508 Days, entered the iTunes United Kingdom Classical Charts. I’ll Split Mine With You, from the same album, was included in the compilation CD Guitar Tenderness, released in Japan. Minor7th magazine described his music as “a delightful way of creating bright, shimmering melodies that you want to hear again.”

Stelios is currently releasing his second full-length album, 9 Moments (2026).
