BHS Fatherhood Engagement Specialist, Derek Lewis, is joined by a panel of dads- including Baltimore City Council President, Nick Mosby, and Baltimore Healthy Start board member, Terrance Lindsey- for a candid discussion about manhood, healthy relationships, and raising children with fatherly love. This year marks the sixth anniversary of Black Maternal Health Week, created by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, and the theme for 2023 is: “Our Bodies Belong to Us: Restoring Black Autonomy and Joy!” This episode of "Come to the Well" is a special recording from Baltimore Healthy Start's community screening and panel discussion of the documentary film, "Aftershock," directed and produced by Tonya Lewis Lee- mother, women's and maternal health advocate, author, and entrepreneur. Dr. Nicole T. Rochester (board-certified pediatrician, independent health advocate, and healthcare navigation expert) moderates a panel of dynamic professionals and change agents in maternal and child health: Dr. Arthur "Jason" Vaught (maternal-fetal medicine specialist and surgical critical care surgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital), Tracie Brown, CNM (certified nurse midwife serving the DC metro area), Erica M. Freeman (founder of Sisters in Loss), and Maxine Reed-Vance (BHS Deputy Director and nurse).

The documentary film, "Aftershock," sheds light on the deaths of two young women due to childbirth complications, and how two bereaved families galvanized activists, birth-workers, and physicians to reckon with one of the most pressing American crises today: the US maternal health crisis. "Aftershock" is currently streaming on Hulu.
