This band is called Gidropony. The band hails from the small industrial city of Saransk, about 400 miles east of Moscow, in what is apparently the Russian equivalent of the Rust Belt. And there’s definitely something uniquely Russian about Gidropony’s mishmash sound, which mixes the crazy videogame synths of chiptune with elements of punk, electro and drum ‘n’ bass in what sounds like some bored Russian kids’ vague, thirdhand idea of what hipsters in Brooklyn must be listening to. They’re like the aural equivalent of cheap knockoff Levi’s, or that fake version of Donkey Kong you downloaded off BitTorrent that bombs your PC with Russian porn pop-ups.

We are a salsa and jazz and world music band consisting of (mostly) anthropologists.

Charming Disaster is a musical duo based in Brooklyn, NY, formed in 2012 by Ellia Bisker and Jeff Morris. Inspired by the gothic humor of Edward Gorey and Tim Burton, the noir storytelling of Raymond Chandler, the murder ballads of the Americana tradition, and the dramatic flair of the cabaret, they write songs that tell stories about love, death, crime, ancient mythology, and the paranormal.

Two young musicians have taken it upon themselves to write a new song from scratch every week, then to share their songs with each other and the world. Each episode, Roger Heathers and Declan Kitchener deconstruct the theory and process of writing music, then probably go off topic to talk about how amazing the Beatles are or something.

A core part of the scene built around boutique label Folkroom Records, London-based alternative folk seven-piece Ringlefinch have been described as "Like Bellowhead before them... just one appearance on ‘Later With’ away from becoming nationwide favourites". 

With scores of gigs under their belts since forming in 2012, and over two million streams on SoundCloud alone, they released debut album 'Tall Tales' in summer 2021 to widespread critical acclaim (and a Fatea 'Debut Album Of The Year' award nomination!).
