An album that struck me deeply this year was the debut by Gothenburg based artist Astrid Øster Mortensen. On “Gro Mig En Blomst”, she crafts eerie, timeless, and warm songs from her voice, field recordings, and various instruments, all to great effect. The mix she’s recorded for Motion Cast features songs from Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, and the US, as well as some music of her own. Highly recommend checking out the label that released her album, Förlag För Fri Musik, as well. I’m just scratching the surface of the Gothenburg scene but the range of styles coming from this crew is intriguing!
