I'm Jim, AKA Smoked Yowie and much like the yowie of myth, I can be a reclusive creature at times. I live in the hills in country Victoria, Australia near a tiny town called Lexton. A town some of you will know is the home of the magical Rainbow Serpent Festival. For me, it's the place where I first sunk my roots in this beautiful scene. After attending 10+ RSF events between 2004(ish) and its finale in 2019, it was from around 2015 that I began to open up and really discover what we all know and love as the Doof. After finding my groove on the dancefloor in the heavier sounds of full-on, night-psy and soon enough, forest psytrance, I had an epiphany in the tiny hours of the morning after a solid night on the dancefloor. I knew what I wanted to do in my heart and that one day I could realise that dream! It was a moment I'll never forget and the reason I will always pinch myself when I get the opportunity to put together a show for you beautiful souls!    

On the business end - I love playing energetic, hard hitting psytrance for the bush aiming to bring smiles, challenge boundaries, stomp, bounce and flow in the darkness and blue hours of the morning. Bringing elements of twilight, night-psy, goa and forest together with a dash of weird to form psychedelic journeys bound by heavy basslines and wild soundscapes. This is the beginning of my journey into the world of Psy! Please enjoy what I have to share as a DJ in the making! Good music, heavy boogies with friends and family and lots and lots of love!

Dirge is the Twilight Psytrance project of Melbourne born Mike O'Shard.

For 11 years he has spread a strange and sinister signal across Australian dance floors - a dark broadcast transmitted by shadow; a message sent by the frequency of night.

Mike managed the Ascension Stage at Esoteric Festival in Australia between 2017 - 2024, and currently represents MMD Records from Cape Town, South Africa as a label DJ.


- CONCEPT -
A 'Dirge' is defined as a lament for the dead; as a mournful song, piece of music or sound. 

Almost a decade ago in the moonlit forest of Mount Disappointment, a strange message was received. The message began as a barely perceptible hum underneath the noise of the local broadcast network, and was transmitted with one purpose - to corrupt the mind of a local human target and spread.. relentlessly. 

Within the darker reaches of its human host body's imagination, this message would bide its time and grow as a quiet voice in the darkness - as a ghost in the machine - until one day, it would be noticed.

On the surface, all was normal. It was a day like any other, until a disruption was felt within the network. The disruption was felt as a slight shimmer; a most subtle shift in the pitch of the broadcast's frequency.

For one small moment, the broadcast faltered, and faded. A team was deployed to investigate. 

Investigating the disruption, the message was discovered and identified as virulent. It had grown in such great measure over time that the network's signal, once thought to be untouchable, had been hijacked entirely. The broadcast signal was now a distorted and ghostly shadow of its former self. 

The report made by the team investigating the anomaly concluded that the disruption had not been felt within the original network; there was nothing of that network left. The disruption had been felt at the very moment that the last remainders of the original network were extinguished.

No-one had noticed the message spread, nor detected the signal's growth. No-one had heard it whisper as it redirected every connection on the network's server. No-one had heard its screams of contempt and rage as it ceaselessly multiplied itself in the background. 

In the final moments of transmission, a new message was received - one word uttered in an unfamiliar tongue, in an endlessly repeating loop - "Dirge..."

Ben Irving is the DJ behind 3 different music projects smiGGle, DragN Drop and Benny wOng. Ben's DJ career began in the clubs of Brisbane over decade ago and from there has continued his career playing at club gigs and music festivals all over Australia.

SmiGGle is the main DJ persona of Ben Irving. As a promoter, and appreciator of all types of music, the key word for this fun-loving tune spinner is diversity. In the past sixteen years this cheeky character has played numerous sets throughout Australia, as well as founding central Queensland's most prominent parties – Mushroom Valley and Happy Daze Festivals. In the last few years he has support some of the most prominent acts from Australia and around the world - Ed Solo, Grouch, Opiuo, Spoonbill, Staunch,Tetrameth, Terrafractyl, One Tasty Morsel, Earthling, Rinkadink and Defunk to name a few.

SmiGGle will tailor his sets specifically for each gig he plays at and each slot he is given. The term “genre” hold little relevance, as this DJ will seamlessly transition between glitch, breaks, prog, minimal or psy-trance, and anything in between. The bottom line is not the style, but the content, and the bottom line is always good electronic music. As this vast world of sound we live in continues to expand, Smiggle will be at the forefront of all styles, continuously evolving his exciting and enjoyable sets and capturing the very best of the vast realm of electronica the planet has to offer. Ben's mixes are always guaranteed to create precious, precious moments.

After more than a decade of working behind the scenes, Ken P Arty has finally stepped into the spotlight, and unsurprisingly, he’s quickly become the go-to DJ for party enthusiasts everywhere.

Trust me, he didn’t earn the name Ken P Arty for nothing! With an electrifying music selection that seamlessly transitions between Bass House, UK Garage, Tech House, Hip Hop, and more, you never quite know where he’s going to take you. But one thing is for sure, he’ll keep the dance floor groovin.
