Sherlock Holmes - A Study In Scarlet - Part 3 - Conclusion -1962 BBC

The popularity of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "Sherlock" is back as he is appearing on television and in the motion pictures... but the series was also extremely popular on the radio.  In 1946, Basil Rathbone gave up the radio series simply because he was tired of playing Sherlock... what with a lot of movies and many episodes on the radio... he retired from the character.  Tom Conway (photo right)  who sounded very much like Rathbone.. became the new Sherlock with Nigel Bruce continued on as Dr. Watson.  This episode is "The Stuttering Ghost" and is extremely well done... a good mystery!

On Feb. 6, 2010 a group of local volunteer actors including: Jason Daniel Roberts, James C. Darling, Diane Ficarra, Jean Proulx, and Bruce Allen came together to re-create the Sherlock Holmes radio show entitled, "The Adventure of the Tolling Bell"  The program was directed and edited by John Lovering and was recorded in a home studio to be later broadcast on his Audio Theatre program that aired on Portsmouth Community Radio for 13 years from 2004-16.

New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Re-Creation - Adventure of the Tolling Bell - Feb 6, 2010

This is a 3 part BBC radio production that began on Dec. 31, 1960.  It stars Norman Shelley as Dr. Watson and Carleton Hobbs as Sherlock Holmes.  First track has background information about the show... including a cast list and an introductory synopsis of the story.  As all British productions, this is brilliantly acted with excellent production values.  Parts 2 and 3 can be found in the Playlist "Sherlock Holmes - The Valley of Fear"   This is a good story.  Parts 2 and 3 begin without any introduction.

Adapted and written for radio by Michael Hardwick with Carleton Hobbs as Sherlock and Norman Shelley as Dr. Watson.  "The Valley of Fear" continues with Part 2 of 3 Parts.  The conclusion (Part 3) can be found in the Playlist "Sherlock Holmes- The Valley of Fear".  This track contains just the program... no intro.. and a very short outro.  Very good story and as it is a BBC production, extremely well done.

This is the concluding episode to the 3 part story "The Valley of Fear" Note: Though quite intelligible, the audio file on this track is not as clear as in the first two parts... but the story is excellent and this brings you to the solution of the crime!  No introduction on the track, the story just begins.  Thanks for listening.   Norman Shelley plays Dr. Watson and Carleton Hobbs is Sherlock Holmes.
