"Make it feel like a panic attack, but also a rock song," was the single request Camron Rushin sent to Todd Pruner with the acoustic version of his song "BITTER PILL". This is the system The Best Around has used since they formed last April during the Covid-19 pandemic. Without any specific instructions, each player lays down their tracks before passing the song to the next to be recorded in their own home studio, bathroom, or tool shed. "BITTER PILL" is the first amongst a slew of singles the band is preparing to release and then collect into a full album. Genre-bending, "BITTER PILL" runs the gamut of new wave, post-punk, neofolk, psychedelic rock and 90s indie. Much like a panic attack the anxiety is layered. An acoustic guitar lays the foundation, followed quickly by drum and bass and then a spine-tingling, carnival-style organ chases the guitar line while Rushin's vocals unload his anxieties. This all culminates into nerve-shredding guitar and organ solos by Jon Merz. It's like if The Animals played 'House of the Rising Sun' on LSD and adderall while trying to escape a haunted house. The song was mixed by Evan Kaspar at Estuary Studios and mastered by Erik Wofford of Cacophony Recorders both in Austin, TX. "BITTER PILL" will be released September 1, 2021 on all the streaming platforms. The band will also be running a social media campaign to promote this release which will be followed by a release of a music video.

“Witch on the Corner” is a slide blues powerhouse, a song loosely based on a biographical tale of gentrification wrapped up in family myth.  It tells the story of a disgruntled woman who views newcomers as foes until she meets the one that has her number.  Featuring hypnotic slide blues riffs, harmonica fills, Robert Plant like vocals, and Strontium’s signature powerful drumming, “Witch on the Corner” is a single to prove that The Margaret Hooligans can crossover into other genres with ease while retaining their distinctive sound.

“Witch On the Corner” is the fourth single being released from upcoming album, Saturday Night in Bartertown, due out in July 2023.

“Witch On the Corner” will be available on all streaming platforms, the band’s website and Bandcamp on Friday, April 21st, 2023.  The band is planning to release 5 new singles from the album every 5 weeks from January through June, with the full album release in July 2023.

“Witch On the Corner” was recorded in the basement of Piety Street Publishing, mixed and mastered by Jon Huxtable of Smallfish Recordings, and was produced by Mr. Strontium.
