DQX OST (Symphonic) Puklipo - Dwarf - Ton - Ten - Kan - Exploring The Hills.  Koichi Sugiyama.  I think this tune is better suited to a lively town or castle than exploration, but I've done both in my games.

Beckoning, a town song from Dragon Quest IX, symphonic version, rearranged to omit the part of the medley featuring the clapper because it breaks the tone where I'm using the track.   Otherwise great for a cheerful town, royal or otherwise. By Koichi Sugiyama.

A lovely version of the Dragon Quest V waltz, evidently the PS2 version, by Koichi Sugiyama.  Whether or not you're into game music, give it a listen if you like classical waltzes, for example Strauss.  It's a wonderful piece!

Dragon Quest IV Battle for the Glory symphonic version by Koichi Sugiyama.  A lively tune for your battles and fights, cleaned up a bit so there aren't any lulls.
