Context turns out to be fairly important in this case: Because a lot of these "songs" were made for a very specific purpose (viz. as essentially static themes for videos that were mostly never made) or no purpose at all (i.e. as disconnect themes and pieces of music I have written and arranged over the years as a proof of concept for other musicians, essentially, but have yet to find some larger body to put them in [and more to the point, probably never will find some larger body to put them in]) many of the pieces end abruptly, are unmixed (or mixed unwell), are repetitive and too long (sometimes even to the point of tediousness, in certain moods), etc. etc. I here affirm I am aware of this defect and that I entertain no elaborate plans to correct or even apologize for it.  This page is mostly intended as a platform for sharing with certain select relevant parties for whom it has become tedious to share by email and not a wider audience. If by chance, though, you are a stranger who in his wanderings has found his way here, I by no mean intend to exclude you; indeed, it is to you whom this "bio" is addressed. These are not always compositions; they are more like arranged ideas and themes -- it is this that I wish to express. 

That said, a lot of this music I still like and stand behind, and it seems to me increasingly sad lately that this stuff just exists without a venue for expression. The old hoary philosophical thing about trees in forests and various acoustic properties, and so on. That, and the fact that my computer has become dangerously unreliable of late -- I thought a place to back all this stuff up might reduce risk of apoplexia/anurysm/suicide/etc. 

One other thing. Any deficiencies vis-à-vis mixing I should like to immediately and totally blame on the equipment whereon it was mixed, and not as a result of any operative error on the part of the person mixing (viz. me). In actuality, though, everything wrong with the mixes (and anything else for that matter) is completely and utterly my own personal fault. I take full credit for these faults; they are as much mine as the music to which they adhere.

Our mission is to help reduce stress, anxiety & depression encouraging both mindfulness and peaceful sleep through our music. The project was originally commissioned by a Hypnobirthing instructor to give to her students. It was so successful that we made it into a full album which was finally released globally in December 2016.

My ex-wife was a paediatric research nurse who had worked for many years on an intensive care unit. In 2008 she gave birth to our son Hunter at home in a birthing pool using natural birthing techniques primarily from the HypnoBirthing methodology. Her labor lasted only three hours and Hunter was born within less than 15 minutes of the first push. 3.5 years later our daughter Minnie was also born calmly and joyfully at home in a birthing pool.

Inspired by her own positive birthing experience and having become increasingly aware of the endemic lack of understanding of the needs of women in labor across society my wife began teaching antenatal classes to pregnant couples. From the start most of her clients expressed a need for more appropriate music to aid in their relaxation than what was being provided. We began asking exactly what it was about the music that was putting them off. The answers amounted to an inability to be absorbed by the music without actually noticing it. Using recognizable instruments such as piano, harp or flute could be distracting because of personal associations with those instruments. One woman was unpleasantly reminded of being forced to have piano lessons as a child for instance. The same is true for natural ambience - not everyone finds the sound of waves on the seashore peaceful.

Informed by the needs of my wife's clients I set out to create a body of work that specifically addressed these needs at every stage. The two tracks that were originally released have been used successfully not only in my wife's antenatal classes but also by several women during both labor and birth with extremely positive results. I posted the tracks on Soundcloud several years ago and took a hiatus from the project. When I returned recently I discovered to my immense surprise that between them they'd accumulated more than 310,000 plays, 2,500 likes and 500 reposts. Knowing that people are listening and that the music may be helping them relax is the most I could hope for.

This album is dedicated to the memory of Trish Keenan - the lead vocalist, founding member and synthesizer genius behind the Birmingham based group known as Broadcast.
