Swept wings also delay critical mach, the point at which airflow over a surface becomes supersonic. They also offer pretty big bonuses in handling at higher speed regimens

Fun fact: pure oxygen has a similar violent reaction with any petroleum product. This is why if you service any aircraft oxygen system you basically have to have wrenches only for that because if any oil comes into contact with it you get ignition
