AI Alternate History

This episode, we discuss the American Revolution. We spend a great deal of time analyzing many "what-if"s of the conflict. Was the war inevitable? Could America have lost? What if Washington died during the war? What if Benedict Arnold never betrayed his country? Could the Could America have devolved into dictatorship before the war was even complete?
In addition to these relevant topics of discussion, we also meander into many, many tangents. We can't help ourselves!

TH - The America Revolution

Gabriel Over the White House is one of the strangest films we’ve ever seen. And what a film it is! The year is 1932. President Judson Hammond suffers a serious brain injury and has returned from death’s door with an almost religious conviction to end the Great Depression. What are his methods? Well, the Legislature, Judiciary, and Constitution are definitely not involved. America’s democratic traditions are a mere speed-bump to be overcome for this President. Dictatorship is the order of the day. The next step is mass nationalization of industry, and roving bands of death squads eliminating enemies of the state. But, why is President Hampton doing this? What inspired him to take these bold measures? Could he be possessed by the Angel Gabriel?!? Or could it merely be the spirit of Abraham Lincoln? The possibilities are endless.

Mission To Moscow is one of the most bizarre films ever made. The year is 1943, and FDR wants Hollywood to make a movie which portrays the Soviet Union in a positive light. Warner Brothers responds by making an adaptation of Joseph E. Davie's book about his time in the Soviet Union called "Mission To Moscow".
The film portrays The Soviet Union and the Soviet leaders in glowing terms that would be completely unthinkable in the USA just two years later. It must be seen to be believed.

This episode we discuss the WWII propaganda movie "Dragon Seed". A film about Chinese peasants resisting The Japanese during the early days of the Second Sino Japanese War. A film with many unintentionally funny moments, a lot of very serious moments, and a film that delves into many interesting historical subjects not often covered by films of the era.
This film also includes an unforgettable performance by Walter Huston

Dragon Seed (1944)

In this episode we discuss a stunningly unique movie, The Fall of Berlin. This is easily the most propaganda-y propaganda film we've ever seen. Released in 1950 in the Soviet Union, this is ostensibly the story of a young (old) steel worker named Alyosha whose girlfriend, Natasha, gets kidnapped by the Germans in the opening days of the second World War, and he must fight all the way to Berlin to get her back.
But, in reality, the plot is just window dressing for the true purpose of this film, to worship and glorify Joseph Stalin. This film is the absolute apotheosis of the Stalin cult of personality. He is depicted as wise, cunning, brave, he's nigh infallible, and he's happy to dispense great dating advice. It must be seen to be believed.

The Fall Of Berlin (1950)

In this episode, we do something unprecedented. We analyze not one, but THREE fine films. Missing in Action, Missing in Action II: The Beginning, and Braddock: Missing in Action Part III. This is a Vietnam War adjacent action series centering on Col. James Braddock, played by master thespian, Chuck Norris.
Braddock's journey through space, time, and potentially parallel dimensions must be seen to be believed.
We have fun poking fun at this absurd series, but also delve into the serious issues of the POW/MIA movement, especially the "Live POW" theory, as well as the Vietnam War in general.

Missing In Action Series

*Sigh*, Somehow, Hess has returned..
We discuss the 1985 film Wild Geese II, a film where a bunch of violent mercenaries free Rudolf Hess from Spandau Prison for reasons too stupid to type. The film is the sequel to Wild Geese II, but you'd hardly know it because it is almost completely unrelated to the first film.
We attempt to unravel the plot of this unnecessarily confusing film, and discuss the historical context behind the film, namely the life of Rudolf Hess. We also discuss the greater careers of the actors involved in the film, and spend a good amount of time talking about Bond movies.

Wild Geese 2

This episode we review the film "The Fighting Seabees"! 
No, this is not a movie about swarms of marine-based bees taking over the planet, it's a movie about civilian construction workers who volunteer to work and fight for the US Navy during WWII.
John Wayne barely acts his way out of a paper bag to star in this film that takes us to exotic locations like Island X-214, Island X-371, and most enthralling of all, the Bureau of Yards and Docks.
Throughout the film we are serenaded by "The Song of the Seabees", an infectiously catchy song about how the Seabees can build AND fight. And we see quite a bit of both throughout the film. The action scenes in this film are truly astounding, and must be seen to be believed.
The Seabees are a real organization, which really were essential to victory during the War in the Pacific. Was this movie a fitting tribute to these heroes? Or was it a goofy farce? You decide!

World War II. The most interesting war in all of human history, and The Mediterranean is most people's third or fourth favorite theater of that colossal war. Is this reputation deserved? Is the Mediterranean underappreciated and a vital part of the eventual Allied Victory? Or was it a series of blunders better left forgotten? How could changing the way the war was fought in the  Mediterranean have changed the conflict as a whole? These, and many things unrelated to history, are analyzed in this obscenely long episode. 
I may have gone too far in a few places.
