Beautiful Skies

Sometimes, you just want to throw all your crazy ideas into one track and hope it turns out.

Some features of this track include: a prominent use of 3-bar phrases instead of 4-bar; harmony built almost entirely on the Persian scale; my live-performance of the doumbek (a turkish hand drum); sound design made by my mouth; beatboxing; my own throat singing; noise-vocoded lyrics; Armenian rhythms and harmonies influenced by System of a Down; sections influenced by extreme metal band Meshuggah;

I wanted to build a track mostly from the ground up, designing drum and synth sounds myself, performing some of the parts and instruments live, write lyrics that were relevant to me and my current life situation, and use a selection of the many unusual musical influences I have internalized over the years. What came out makes for an interesting track that breaks expectations! It brings me some satisfaction to make new the things that I find interesting and bring it together into something of my own. I want to make music that stimulates me personally and look back on it knowing I did what I wanted. All that said, I'm glad Surrender came together in the way that it did with as many musical quirks as it features.

Hope you like this dark track, even better if you headbang to it.
