Vital Organs

Just returned home from a mandatory evacuation due to the California fires.  Took everything apart for my eurorack patchings because of it, too.  At any rate, figured I'd start back in with an ambient or cinematic soundscape, whichever it becomes.

The Behringer VC340 plays the central role of the vocoder, the strings, and the human voices.  Primarily, although most of the speech is unintelligible, I am describing the eurorack, synth, semi-modular synth, and Keystep setup.  I then proceed to speak of the changes I am activating throughout.

Essentially, I play various arpeggiations through the Keystep, which then controls the VC340 via midi.  The CV pitch and gate outputs then feed into a few different semi-modular synths and eurorack modules.  

The core semi-modular synths involved are two Neutrons and a Crave.

The main modules included are the Trigger Riot, the Flexshaper, the CMOS Party Logic, and the Dual Looping Delay.  The Z4000 gives some envelop variation while the Fusion Mixer imparts some tube saturation.

A beat showed up, and was quite welcome.  Now it's not, per se, ambient.  ^_~

Could also mention, perhaps, that the first couple of recording sessions didn't record properly ... very peculiar recording issues arose ... .  At any rate, these are rock solid.

Well, the Crave went so wild I don't know where it is anymore, so it dropped out of this tune.  No worries though, quite a full mix anyway.  Also, on these monotonic takes, well, I forgot to press the "stop" button on the Keystep, which, oddly enough, starts it ... that is, starts the transmission of the midi data which I composed in for the bassline to follow.  So I ended up performing on just the same monotonic frequency in the bass.  Well, except for when I accidentally nudged one of the frequency knobs ... during the performance.  It being a performance, however, you know, you just ride with it.  After all, I am merely following along where the sounds seem to want to go ... sometimes I'm the last to know why.

At any rate, write it off to happy accidents or what have you, but that's really what this whole eurorack experience is all about.

Side note:
I felt the beat really wanted to be a breakbeat, except for during the breaks ... so yeah ... the beat essentially switches the usual format on its head.  So the breaks are in four to the floor instead.

Lightning takes:
In these takes, the Crave was resurrected and quite angelic.  During the 0th take I, again, forgot to press the button which activated all of the midi control sent through the Keystep.  And again, I let it record all the way through.  Again, I had been intending to do so anyway.

Another note of interest in these takes is that I allowed the Eurorack patchings and synthesizer settings to generate the entirety of the non-percussion sounds in these takes, as opposed to improvising with various parameters I usually do.  They sound so beautiful as is that I want to have recordings of the setup, which I spent hours putting together beforehand, just playing through.

In the proceeding takes, I did activate the midi commands.  As the takes continued I decided to subtract out various voices in order to record them in isolation with just the beat.

Thanks For Giving 2020

i made this new years day 2021 as an offering to the continuum the never ending, all powerful, in hopes that it will appease if not delight. its a bit rough around the edges certainly not a finished product but i did enjoy making in the hopes of all mankind  being allowed a short reprieve from the horribleness in which we've brought. at least a month? maybe 2 before something horrible happens. please?
