Although Ahuva is a naturopathic doctor and licensed acupuncture physician by profession, her love for music started at a young age.  She recalls when she was a child growing up in California that she would spend hours in her room memorizing songs, singing karaoke, and writing her own raps and poems.  Her first published poem was featured in a newspaper called Bear Essentials when she was in the third grade.  She continued to write and publish through college and beyond.  Ahuva dabbled in the modeling, acting, and dancing industries.  She was crowned Miss Hawaiian Tropic of the US Virgin Islands, played as an extra in a Moly Ringwald movie, and performed ballet, tap, and jazz dancing in front of large audiences from a young age. Her parents, however, encouraged her to choose a more practical and reliable career because they knew how challenging it is to break into the entertainment industry.  Ahuva put her entertianment dreams aside as she pursued her academic endeavors.

As a single mom, Ahuva found that music with themes of unity, peace, healing, and the struggles of being a single parent were just coming to her and needed an outlet.  Her mission and goal is to be the voice for creating positive social change by bringing important topics into the consciousness and awareness of the public and talking openly about them.  She started writing remakes of popular songs which often incorporate humor as a tool to express these often difficult topics that many people could relate to but not a lot of people are singing about.  Music became an instrument of self-expression, story-telling, and connecting with others as well as a means of bringing forth the positive societal changes and transformations that she wishes to see.  Her music is not about showcasing her voice, it is about her sharing her important messages: Messages of healing, peace, unity, personal transformation and transcendence over common challenges.

Her first song entitled DARKSIDE explores date rape, domestic violence, dead beat dads and body image issues/eating disorders. Everyone has either experienced one or more of these issues personally or knows someone who has. Ahuva is bringing these matters into her music because awareness of the problem is necessary for healing to begin. It is not about placing blame or guilt or shame. It is about taking responsibility for our lives and committing ourselves to being better people. We all have a dark side. We all have areas in our lives that need healing. Ahuva's music keeps it real and reminds us that we all need to work on ourselves in order to make the world a better place. As a practitioner of the holistic healing arts, Ahuva's passion is to help others to heal themselves using natural medicine and she is now using music as a tool for achieving the same outcome. Sarah Clanton is bringing people together and building a feel-good machine. The Nashville singer-songwriter, who has brought the classical and pop worlds together with her use of a cello, rather than a guitar, to front one of Music City’s most unique bands, has been on a feel-good mission since long before she plucked her way into town. But it’s never been more apparent than on her new album, Here We Are.

A classically-trained musician who began playing cello age 9, Clanton grew up in a conservative Southern Baptist household, where MTV and certain radio and tv shows were off-limits. Then, her life changed in college, when she discovered holistic alternatives to calm her life-long anxiety, and the new sounds of the Greenville, South Carolina open mic scene. “It opened up this whole world to me,” she said. It was a world which Clanton ultimately traveled to Bonaroo, where in 2008, she saw someone doing something unheard of: “I saw this guy plucking cello and playing Fiona Apple and Gnarles Barkley, and I was like, ‘Oh my God’… I’d never thought about singing and playing cello at the same time.”

Things moved quickly from there. She attended The Swannanoa Gathering, a folk music and songwriting workshop near Asheville, NC, where she was taught how to strum chords on a cello and hone her songwriting. She found herself performing more frequently, and even organizing a couple festivals of her own like Music in the Woods - a weekly solar powered festival at Paris Mountain State Park in Greenville, South Carolina.. And by the time she left Greenville for Music City in 2014, she had already recorded her first album, and was doing 200 dates a year, playing bars, weddings, “Anything I could do,” she says. 

Here We Are may be a solo album, but Clanton says it could not have been made without others — from co-producer Eric Loomis, to a group of top Nashville session musicians and many more. But mostly, she says, the album was made for others. She jokes that the uplifting, “big and awesome” pop album is a “feel-good machine,” built to bring people together in these difficult and divisive times. “We’re not going to make any progress being divided,” she says. “If I can get some of that mindfulness out there to negate some of the hate, that would be so great.” 

With flashes of the classically-trained pop sensibility of Regina Spektor, and the sultry jazzitude of Amy Winehouse, Clanton finds herself in good company on Here We Are— while still “cello-brating,” she says, her one-of-a-kind musical approach. And this uniqueness hasn’t gone unnoticed. In the Spring of 2017, Sarah was selected as an Official Showcase Artist at the South Eastern Regional Folk Alliance in Montreat, North Carolina. Then, in late 2017, No Depression and Elmore Magazine premiered her single “Silver Lining” (co-written with Mary Bragg), the first single from Here We Are. 

Like “Silver Lining,” which Clanton says is about “championing constructive conversation,” all the songs on Here We Are were written with what she says is a certain “mindfulness” that they could make people’s lives better. “Slow it Down,” she says, is about “living in the moment.” “We Belong” delivers the message that, “Wherever you are, you’re ok… we’re all just here, and we’re all in it together.” (It’s a message similar to that of the #metoo movement, which Clanton was interviewed about by National Public Radio in March 2018.)

Clanton has even stepped outside of her own music to help others, teaching young women the craft of songwriting, as a mentor for Nashville’s Girls Write Nashville program. Because it wasn’t that long ago Clanton was a young musician herself, trying to find her way personally, and professionally. But now, she’s got a feel-good machine, and she’s going to use it. “I kinda have this theory that if we don’t feel good individually, we aren’t going to be good for everybody.”

My yoga practice started with my mom and sister, in our living room, when I was a kid. My mom taught us hatha yoga that she had learned from a book, and I remember being particularly fond of lion breath (because you stick out your tongue). I grew up and completely forgot about this early introduction, until I met up with hatha yoga again in university. When I moved to Vancouver, I intended to carry on with classes, but was overwhelmed by the variety of choices and styles of yoga that I had never heard of before. Then, at a difficult and stressful time towards the end of my studies, I “saw” for the first time a yoga studio that was within 2 blocks from my apartment. I signed up for a beginners’ class…and felt like I’d come home. I loved the yoga because it left me feeling good; and after years of developing and training my mind at university, here was suddenly a holistic teaching reminding me to listen to my body and breath as well, and that “I” am not my mind. 
I’ve been practising Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan for over 17 years – completing Level 1 Teacher Training in Vancouver in 2001, and Level 2 in London, UK in 2010. I am now a Teacher Trainer with Karam Kriya School in London, and spend much of my time participating in Trainings around Europe, so that these priceless teachings can continue to be shared at a wider level. I trained in pregnancy yoga, and have a particular interest in the use of sound and mantra for healing. 
Yogi Bhajan taught that happiness is the birthright of every human being; and he gave us these teachings to take care of the body, balance the mind, and elevate the spirit, so that we can live in a state of upliftment, and so that we can serve others to be happy, healthy and holy.
