Blues song about being too hot in TEXAS, causing the squirrels to SPLOOT!!!   Wrote it in April on my funky baritone resonator ukulele when it hit 95 and I could see the writing on the wall:  a repeat of the horrendous heat, drought and wildfires of 2011 was coming our way ... again.

Texas Curse

Created from a series of melodies I found over several months after acquiring a vintage  Rick Turner Octave Compass Rose ukulele.  A large-body uke strung with custom strings an octave below normal tenor tuning, it has a deep other-worldly sound and within a few weeks of playing it, this collection of melodies and motivs were revealed in a decidedly irregular time signature, vacillating between 9/8 and 6/8, with a few measures of 3/4!  The exquisite listening skills of Jeff Brister were able to notate the melody as I played it on the amazing instrument, for which I am forever grateful.  I opted to turn it into a piano piece and now Emil has done a masterful job capturing the changing moods of this lengthy piece as it changes direction and covers a lot of ground, always returning home.
