A concept album inspired by one of my favourite short stories, a fairy tale written by Oscar Wilde 'The Fisherman and His Soul'.

Back around 2018/19 I started developing a short game for a competition based around the concept of fairy tales. The tale I selected was of course, 'The Fisherman and His Soul'. The game itself was sadly never completed within the time limit however the soundtrack largely was! The game was to only cover from the stories beginning up until the fisherman seperates his shadow from his body, abandoning his soul at the dance of the witches. Naturally this concept album concludes with the seperation of his soul and the appearance of " the pale man dressed in a suit of black velvet, cut in the Spanish fashion" who clearly represents the Devil.

This OST was a fiendish collaberation between my youngest brother and I, and ended up sounding quite dark despite sneaking in a few hellish Vitas (the dolphin voiced prince) samples here and there for kicks.

The track listing follows the general beats of the story:

I. Bio Skeeva Boo -

The title track for the game, surreal and fueled by the fury of a thousand Vitas'.

II. byzantine -

The mood/scene setter not really refering to any particular event in the story.

III. wHALIN -

The loneliness of the sea and also when the mermaiden is caught within the fishermans net

IV. Fishing Village - 
-------------------------
Secretly two songs in one, this track functioned as the theme of the central hub.

V. CHURCHIN - 
-------------------------
The fisherman visits the local priest madly in love with the mermad yet the presence of his soul keeps them apart. The priest is less than impressed and tells him 

"Alack, Alack, thou art mad, or hast eaten of poisonous herb, for the soul is the noblest part of man, and was given to us by God that we should nobly use it. There is no thing more precious than a human soul, nor any earthly thing that can be weighed with it. It is worth all the gold that is in the world, and is more precious than the rubies of the kings. Therefore, my son, think not any more of this matter, for it is a sin that may not be forgiven. And as for the Sea-folk, they are lost, and they who would traffic with them are lost also. They are as the beasts of the field that know not good from evil, and for them the Lord has not died."

The priest only becomes more and more insenced shouting the poor fishman from his house and most likely frothing wildly at the mouth!

VI. coronary thrombosis -

The climax, The festival of witches and the appearance of the devil, as well as the severing of the fishermans soul.

I would have loved to add in more tracks especially more focused on the fisherman and the mermaiden as well as alleviate some of the foreboding atmosphere.

Tell Me Why - Neil Young

The Berlin-based band Lawns were formed in the fall of 2020 by three ex-Londoners, Ben Lubin, Joe Green, and Tobias Humble. While influenced by UK post-punk, the bulk of the listening material that they cite consists of US “post-hardcore”. Listing artists like as Blonde Redhead, Death Grips, Deerhoof, Unwound, and Yo La Tengo as key sources of inspiration. Ben confirms, “We like good noisy stuff… I think that’s in our blood.” They all grew up watching videos of Fugazi, Jesus Lizard, Shellac and The Minutemen, and these forces of nature certainly inform Lawns’ incendiary live shows.

The Worrier is a pummelling, pounding paean to paranoia, and the absolute shit, which unchecked, fills our heads. From unpaid bills to imagined physical ills. Fuelled by mainstream and social media. Something like a sonic taser shock it’s the soundtrack to a potential nervous breakdown. Like the rest of the album it expresses, externalises an internal darkness, in a ritual of frenzied release. Its arrangement is like a series of seizures.
