I am an amateur composer, producer and musician who has been inspired and influenced by music my entire life.  Beyond my interests in developing harmony and rhythm ideas, a song’s timbres and textures have always held a deeper emotional grip on me.  This passion for tone has dominated my compositions and productions, which are combined with playful melodies and progressions that are immersed in sophisticated soulful beats.

Dead Hippie Squadron is the solo project of the Vancouver based composer, multi-instrumentalist and recording artist Julian Michal Zembrowski. 

Dead Hippie Squadron encompasses the full breadth of Julian's knowledge and musical experiences. Drawing upon a wide range of influences D.H.S. weaves a unique sound that never shies away from being unconventional and experimental. Julian has a long relationship with the guitar, though he mainly focuses on composition and electronic instrumentation. Dead Hippie Squadron's mission is producing ethereal, mystical and unheard of soundscapes and songs that attempt to transcend the seemingly unending normalcy we quietly and persistently endure. In the distant Subert Humlin, Gory Rallagher, Sank Frinatra, and Dats Fomino Galaxies, Her Majesty's Royal Intergalactic Empire is under siege by the sinister Khazargonians and their elite squads of shock troopers- the Jearl Pamians and Goundsardenians. Her Majesty has commissioned an elite force led by her three of Her Majesty's Space Navy's finest officers with several primary objectives, chief among them was the following directive: to combine the great tones of surf and fifties rock... with disco!
These elite officers are:  Admiral Krank of the SS Belgrade (Guitar, bass, beats, intergalactic espionage and assassination by exploding cigars); and Captain Mirth of the SS Zagreb- (Guitar, piano, synth, beats, and advanced thermal detonation). Unfortunately, despite bravely serving Her Majesty's Space Navy, Vice Commandant Dubois has been court martialed and convicted for conduct not befitting an officer and counterfeiting baseball cards, stripped of his command of the SS Budapest, and dishonorably discharged from Her Majesty's Space Navy, though certain recordings of his guitar, synth, bass, beats, and forward deployable laser blasters remain here memorialized for posterity. Let it be known that though he has sunk to the very depths of ignominy, we wish him well in his new venture, the Spandex Spanktroverse.

Der Berliner Künstler Jim Anders steht für tanzbare elektronische Sounds und Texte am Puls der Zeit. Beeinflusst von vielseitigen urbanen Musikstilen, kreiert er einen ganz eigenen mitreißenden Sound. Seine Texte mit Tiefgang geben dabei Raum zur Reflektion. Wo energetische Beats auf modernen Elektropop treffen, wird der Großstadtdschungel zur Leinwand und der Rausch im Club tanzbar.



Als Soundtüftler und Sänger führte ihn sein breites musikalisches Interesse auf Ausflüge in Elektro Duos, Rap- und Avantgarde Projekte, wodurch er sein Talent entwickelt hat, unterschiedliche Stilrichtungen neu zu denken und sie zu etwas Einzigartigem zu mixen. Das Ergebnis ist die 1. veröffentlichte Jim Anders EP Lauf!, die in Eigenregie im heimischen Studio bei BaumSoundBerlin entstanden ist und mit 6 kraftvollen Tracks aufwartet. Moderne Musik kann auch anders - reinhören, aufdrehen, abgehen!

This threshold space exists for those who feel like listening to some of my quite professional poetry embedded in rather amateurishly recorded but judiciously arranged sound, a modicum of purely acoustic work notwithstanding. SOUND, SPACE AND TIME

Tend your listening senses gently. Even though my general approach welcomes and embraces lo-fi concepts like the precision of spontaneously occuring imprecisions, headphones worth their membranes are recommended - unless you like your sounds flat, mangled, battered and helpless. You don't, do you? Be kind to these soundscapes.

STRUCTURING IMPULSE

Due to the nature of "poetry soundscapes", your listening expectations regarding traditionally structured "songs", sonically purified "raw wildlife soundscapes", keyboard-laden "ambient recordings" or voice-centered "readings" might not be met. You will find some of those in my list of /likes/. "Noise" is a recurring structural element like any other. This is what this sounds like - within its own rights, limitations, tangents and interconnections. Sonic structures. Silent stretches. Poetry emerges from the gaps between the ruts, seeps in from the undergrowth, sweeps down.

Above, there is a tiny poem of mine that I do not understand how to translate into sound. If you do - please act on it. This is just a small gift, not a challenge - life already has more than enough of those on offer, doesn't it? Treat it this way.
