How it all came about

My passion for music started at the age of around 11, I was big into jungle, constantly listening to Kool.fm and slowly building up my tape pack collection such as helter skelter, jungle mania, Pure X and hysteria, as I couldn’t get into the raves at such age. I got the biggest buzz from the likes of Kenny Ken, Nicky blackmarket, Shy Fx and Hype, and totally got lost in the world of music. 

By 2001 at the age of 18, my main focus was actually to be an MC, as I was pretty good at it. Going to house parties dropping lyrics that id wrote. After a while I struggled to find dj’s that were playing the kind of tunes I needed to mc over, which in turn was what made me go out and buy my own turn tables which were a pair of Gemini PT1000. 2002 came about and I was recording sets so I could mc over them, at this stage my mixing was terrible!! And I was having to use a karaoke machine for my mc’ing, But I  persisted! It wasn’t long before I started getting complaints about the noise levels coming from my bedroom, and had to find alternative ways to continue my music and keep the peace. I ended up soundproofing my bricked outer house which was actually my shed! And the music could continue!!! By this point I was a full on raver, and going to raves like Quest and hypnosis at the legendary Q club, Accelerated culture the sanctuary Milton Keynes, and Prosession at kitchen. It was listening to the likes of brockie, Hazard, Twisted individual and mampi swift that I realised I was getting a buzz off the twisted wobbly bass lines that started to emerge. At this point I started to shy away from the Mc’ing and focused more on the mixing which I was still terrible at! At a house party I was at, problems arose and it ended up in my turn tables being seized due to noise complaints which left me kind of stuffed as they took everything including my vinyl. After over a year fighting to get them returned and getting no where I ended up buy my second set of turn tables which were a pair of Numark TT200’s.  

2006 arrived and I had developed quite well, and in 2007 everything started to come together and I made a few links via playing at house parties and anything I could. By 2008 I managed to get a breakthrough and secured myself a radio slot back to back with my mate Dj tension on South Birmingham community radio. After a few months I took on more of a deputy role. This resulted in more radio experience and led to my first booking for face the bass at Q club, along side of Alpha, Bryan G and escape. I cant explain the feeling and the buzz that I got that night and was sure that this was what I was made to do.  From that more and more bookings came my way, Custard factory, Premonition, Subway city, Poets corner - willenhall, Tc’s, and the old O2 academy, which was strangely on a rock night!
I then decided to leave South Birmingham radio, due to lack of my time to be able to volunteer and have full time employment. Through a close pal, Dj Subdue, I then got my first Hysteria booking, kind of mad considering id spent so many years listening to the music from hysteria that I was finally getting my chance to play there. A surreal moment! I played there which got me more bookings from hysteria. I got myself onto West Midlands Radio, due to the set up it was pre-mixed and recorded in my place and then uploaded which was the only way at the time I could promote myself as I had a full dj set up but no internet!! I stayed there with them for 6 months and then started to upload myself onto soundcloud. Got myself onto face book and started talking to Lyrical D who runs Lost in Bass which got me bookings in Bang Bar Basingstoke, Sticky Fridays (Opera theatre) Tottenham, Formula (main arena) Blue Mountain Bristol, Dissident Peterborough, Muzik Hertz 3rd birthday bash, Rainbow garden. I got myself a residency on Second City Records. I was part of BBLU Management, playing Haiti relief, Kane’s birthday bash and Coalminers “my bloody birthday” bash. 

Currently

This year I started feeling fed up of going to events and carrying heavy vinyl bags and  getting there only to find a poor turn table set up if they were there at all. This is where I knew i needed to make the change from vinyl to MP3. I now currently mix vinyl and CD’s. 
My mixing and recordings have come on leaps and bounds since I started. (To the point where I thought I would never get to). I am working slots on Raiders of the old school radio, My set Strictly Bangerz no Clangerz, with continuous guest Dj’s like Dj Tension, Dj Slime, Max Pain. Mc’s Spartan Krew, Dat Kyid just to name a few. (Tuesday 6-8pm). I am also working a slot on Essex Beatz radio. (Wednesday 6-8)  Both once a week. I am getting bookings on a regular basis, most weekends, and sometimes anything up to 6 months in advance.

Future aspirations

From the humble age of 14, three high school friends formed 'parapluie.' Famous for regular appearances at high school assemblies, local libraries & small town folk festivals. Composing all of their own music, they wrote serious lyrics about grown-up things like falling-in-love [sic] which, arguably, none of them had ever experienced; recorded an EP in an old chapel with a small handheld mic (you can hear the chairs scraping and the birds chirping from their perch on the stain-glass window); proudly claimed to have 'absolutely no knowledge of musical theory'; and were known for their enchanting three part harmonies and terrible stage banter.

Regular ol' boring guy who was once a pretty good drummer.   Now I just like to write an occasional stupid song and play around in my basement studio.   And I like to ride my motorcycle.   I only put these up so my friends can listen.  If anything offends you, or is really terrible.......apologies.   Not trying to make real records here.   Plenty of authentic talent out there for ya.

A few microphones and beers make Slightly Sauced a show about everything and nothing. We don't pretend to be experts on the issues, but we'll certainly give them a shot. Our regular panel brings a quirky Canadian focus to debate and discussion.

It all started 2005 (I think), with an era of a band called SOAP. Weirdo's CAN and CAM formed the group because they were mad SOAD (System of a Down) fans and thought it would be funny to form SOAP (System of a Poo).
By God were they awful, like any good punk band they picked up their instruments for the first time yesterday and started a band today. With a gutwrenching combination of terrible SOAD and White Stripes covers, and originals that don't exceed more than 2 chords, SOAP was the main project of CAN and CAM for the extent of 3 years.
During the reign of SOAP there were a couple other projects in the midst; bands like Slitback, and The Poor Whites, who were complete shitfuck, and The Sagas of Why Guy, who are essentially the roots of Weirdonia.
Sagas was finally their serious take on music, with the recruitment of Weirdo BOUWMEESTER on drums, they played one 2 hour show after which Mr. Drummer Boy decided wimmins are better than music.
Anyway there were many musical lulls involved during these years, one of the more famous (lol not really) lulls was the one with Weirdonia! The band was formed July of 2009, many weird songs were made, and it wasn't until February 2010 that it was taken seriously. Now that somewhat regular shows are taking place, the duo believe that they must be doing something relatively alright to receive some sort of recognition and praise!

Musical History :
1. Covers band at 16 called the Jalapeños, can only really remember doing gigs where the bass player was miming bass whilst doing shots off the bar. General good fun band played parties and local dive bars.
2. Started writing terrible originals which would never see the light of day now. Started the band "The Chris Dorgan Experience" playing my early originals, the band consisted of friends Jon Rymer on drums and Joe Diaz on bass. Played a sell out gig at the Cavern and handful more local gigs until... 
3. Joined friends band "Orizon" to take the place of their recently departed bass player, shared backing vocals. Good times were had and some really good gigs all around the country were played. Unfortunately the lead guitarist left so we had to do some rearranging and I started to share Guitar and Bass with lead singer Tom White. Eventually we didn't know where to go with the band and it's songs, so tried a new direction.
4. "The Hokes" was born, we became a full time three piece and used some of my new blues based tunes to get a starting point for our writing and live sets. We then went on to pen some of our best songs to date together. I played guitar and shared lead vocals with Tom White. "The Hokes" will still gig, but unfortunately the band no longer does regular sets. During this time, I supported Paolo Nutini in a solo acoustic matinee gig in Barfly's The Masque. I was joined on stage by a multi instrumental wizard by the name of Austin Ray. 
5. Present day - still writing and recording, mainly doing solo acoustic sets. The music is leaning a lot more to the singer songwriter style. Playing at jam nights and keeping the stories coming is what it's all about. The most recent name that I've supported was Nigel Clark from Dodgy down in Walsall, he was even kind enough to invite me up to play Come Together as it was John Lennons birthday on that particular night & play guitar on his hit Good Enough For You, however I had snapped strings on my guitar so decided to get back in the crowd and sing it back to him along with the other 400 people!

Dj Rizal W Tribefunkt // Edc

DJ Rizal began spinning classics in his home town of Surabaya in 1992 before taking a two-year break to burn rubber on the tarmac, racing GP125 and 150cc modification motorcycles professionally, as a sponsored rider for Team Suzuki. A terrible accident on the track left him with serious injuries, but he was rebuilt – faster, better and stronger – in Singapore and soon after recovering reignited his DJ career with a move to Bali in 1999. Here, he established his name and reputation playing a number of guest spots until he acquired a permanent residency at Kuta’s Old Bounty, followed by Bali Globe on Jl Dhyana Pura, where he rocked the progressive beats for two years. From there he went on to spin a number of slots at Bali’s best – Double Six, Amnesia, Tu Bar, Spy Bar, Fuel and more. In 2005 he took up an ongoing residency at F-Lounge, a chilled lounge bar that caters to a unique musical niche and a discerning audience. He still gets regular slots at Bali’s famous Double Six Club, and also takes Bali beats to other island shores including Java, where he plays at the prestigious Balcony Embassy in Jakarta, and Gili Trawangan, where he holds an ad hoc residency at Dive Indonesia. Overseas incentives such as his 10-week, Western Australian tour, the Amini DJ tour in New Zealand, and a tour of Malaysia and Thailand in 2007, have gained Rizal recognition as Bali’s most famous Indonesian DJ, each tour firing him up with febrile inspiration. DJ Rizal wields control over his art as he moves from soulful house and progressive trance into slamming sets of pounding electro house, combined with fast cuts, and smooth mixing tricks. He is renowned for transcending the rigid divides between underground, overground and commercial spheres by constantly introducing fresh elements. He begins by dropping chilled grooves with a strong emphasis on instrumentation, swirling synths and downplayed vocals, blending sexy layers of sound with a driving 4/4 beat. As the night wears on he revitalises the vibes and fuses the party mood with his creative house force, successfully infecting the dancefloor!
