Working Guy-Steve’s Planet/ K2 and the Three

Onmyoji were real Japanese shamans in the Heian period. In modern terms, they had the social status of national civil servants, were made up of about 70 people, and played an important role in running the country. Their office was located closest to the Emperor's residence.

The main job of the Onmyoji was astronomical observation and creating calendars. These calendars contained recommendations and precautions for daily actions based on astronomical observation and divination techniques handed down from ancient China.
For example, the best day to cut your fingernails is the Day of the Ox, and for toenails, the Day of the Tiger.
Good times and directions to go out. Conversely, times and directions to avoid.
Days when you should avoid going out at all.
Days when digging or moving soil will bring misfortune.
The worst direction for getting a pet that year, and more were detailed.
When the aristocrats of the Heian period woke up, they would first look at the calendar for the day and take action based on these guidelines.

Interestingly, some of this information created by the onmyoji continues to be published in modern special calendars (Koyomi) that are updated every year and are available for anyone to purchase at bookstores.

While many Japanese people are no longer interested in these special calendars, I use parts of them as a reference for my daily activities.

The most famous onmyoji is Abe no Seimei, a real historical figure who appears in Japanese movies and dramas. In modern terms, he seems to have had supernatural abilities such as psychic powers and magic. In particular, he had seven gods (Shichigami) help him with his work. These gods were so creepy that Seimei's wife banned them from entering his mansion, and the seven gods waited under Ichijo Modoribashi Bridge. This bridge still exists in Kyoto, and commemorative portraits of the seven gods are placed there.

There is also an anecdote that Abe no Seimei sometimes had the seven gods help him with cleaning.

On-Myou-Ji (陰陽師)

Blueprint for track that became 'Sandycove Milk'.

Inspired by wondrous music by Conin, whose track 'Kitty's Wake' reminded of the rich clay of Joyce's 'Finnegan's Wake'. This track, about the opening pages of Joyce's Ulysses, borrows coffee spoons, forever those of T.S. Eliot, in an effort to add sweet milk...drawn from the milk-well of honeyed Sandycove.  The lyric speaker is, notionally, Stephen Daedalus. For practical purposes, the lyric speaker is James Joyce himself. His aim? To hit Haines for a guinea [a pre-decimal unit of currency] before heading to France on a ferry. Whilst Haines still feels guilty (sheepish) about having fired his pistol at an imaginary cat he thought he saw in the fireplace in the Martello tower in Sandycove (now the Joyce Museum....a sacred...magical place, whose attendant Joyce scholars told me about the Haines' imaginary cat episode....it is all true...yet also dovetails eerily with the first chapter of Ulysses).

The reference to Haines having consumed Absinthe is a narrative fiction, invented to offer an explanation for his dangerous behaviour. No peer reviewed evidence capable of demonstrating Absinthe has hallucinogenic properties, exists, to my knowledge.

Goodbye Cruel World I Am Off To Join The Circus

Paploviante's done it again with Glitter, an intriguing super funky dance track that upon closer listening, plays with dissonance because each instrument is playing in a different key.  It's not that noticeable at first cause rhythmically it all works perfectly, yet when I jumped in to add a Rhodes track over the top, it was clear that Paul and them music is playing with your ear.  So instead of finding a completely different key as Paul so successfully did, I jumped in with one of the synth fills and had a little fun.  What a great track again from Paul, the Swiss music machine who creates and navigates across so many styles so well.  Paul's got a nasty bass line going as always and did such a marvelous job with the tight guitar, synth and electro backbeats.  I've had the pleasure of jumping into about 20 of Paul's great tracks and send a big thanks over to the Alps for his continuing creations for others to jump on. Welcome to my page!

I've been playing guitar for many years, even though I'm not very good at it, with the support of my wonderful band members.

When I first heard the sound of a Hammond B3 when I was young, I felt something modern in the linear, expressionless sound emitted by the electronics, and then with the advent of the synthesizer, I felt infinite possibilities that could not be expressed with existing instruments.

In 1988, I discovered the joy of using MIDI files as a way to express my music on my ATARI 1040ST computer, and I became obsessed with it. Fortunately or unfortunately, that obsession continues to this day.

All music posted on this Soundcloud is created using only a mouse on a computer's piano roll screen.

The only exception is that I actually play the guitar part on No. 16 (OnMyouJi).

Assembling music on a computer allows you to listen to the melody objectively, so there is the joy of unexpected discoveries.

That's the most interesting thing, and I learn a lot. It can be tiring sometimes, but...

Music has a mysterious power that reminds you of your past self when you listen to music you listened to repeatedly in the past for the first time in a long time.

I think everyone has experienced that.

I hope that the music I post here will help you remember who you are in the future.
