These ancient and poorly recorded sound files are the inner thoughts of the Nerd known as Pondis.

His sole mission was to let the world know his deepest thoughts on the gaming industry.

Through modern analytical techniques we have discerned that his deepest thoughts were as shallow as a puddle and spouted at random with no order, rhyme or reason, but were chronicled none the less.

They indicate which games were being played by this mysterious figure, how he felt about them, what was popular at the time and random other ideas that he stuttered his way through.

These thoughts have now become little more then entertainment in our modern society with people all over the world enjoying the nonsense he recorded.

On a more serious note, I have been writing news, reviews and blogs for a while but have since been unable to keep up with the writing, work and home life balance. 

With this in mind, I took to making short recordings, that could quickly be edited and posted online to be enjoyed or hated and flamed to death. 

The editing will be minimal, simply cutting me stumbling over my words or excessive empty space. So no auto tune... actually that sounds fun, maybe I will do it once.

Hopefully people will listen to these short thoughts and ideas and enjoy the experience. 

I don't expect to change the world, I don't want people to listen to my ideas and preach the word of Pondis, I don't want people to avoid games I haven't enjoyed. These are little more then my opinions and I hope that people can share their opinions back and make a community that can respect each others views. With any luck, people might find themselves enjoying a game they wouldn't normally have bought.

Heart is the name of the game for these two lovers. Self-taught musicians, they have each poured their passion for blues and soul into a given talent that has been moving audiences of all ages in their powerhouse performances together as Stolen Hearts.
Both raised in the Carolina's, the lives of Pam Taylor and Robert Johnson Jr. took a number of twist and turns, along with many ups and downs, before their musical paths crossed. Star struck, they quickly became each other’s biggest fans. Recently engaged, these award winning rock artists had successful individual careers before joining forces in 2014 to start creating even more musical magic. ‘Dirty Southern Soul Music’ is what they call it. It’s a jazzy kind of folk rock specially crafted to deliver the tales of these two musicians, who they are and how they came to be, with an honesty that inspires and heals. It’s undoubtedly their authentic connection with their fast growing numbers of fans that has sparked their popularity.
Their touring escapades have been making a lot of noise on the road. Rock artists with heart; their vigorous and vibrant performances are winning over crowds as they take them on a journey of their lives through their unique sounds. Their song lyrics reveal that life hasn’t always been pretty. But it has certainly provided a lot of material for their on-stage living-room-style comedy routine where, like life itself, there’s always room for silly jokes even though sometimes things can get serious. Always embracing opportunities to connect with their fans – who they call their FRANS (combining their friends with fans) – Pam and Robert see their musical talents as a privilege, and seek opportunities to give back to their community in as many ways as possible. They both prioritize sharing their talents freely to raise money for various charities and benefits. Pam also participates in Girls Rock Charlotte, an empowering camp for young girls, helping them to find their voice, while having fun learning rock and roll skills.
Music, to them, is healing. Whether they are playing to small crowds in restaurants or on big stages at festivals, Stolen Hearts have witnessed, first hand, the spiritual benefits of music, enjoyed by both artists and audiences alike. They want their audiences to leave feeling loved and appreciated. They truly are grateful for their gifts, having suffered many trials and tribulations, with Pam overcoming addiction and Robert having faced his own challenges; now being able to share their music together is ever sweeter. It’s no coincidence that, being a blues woman, Pam would fall for a man named Robert Johnson! Pam was lucky enough to receive a year of mentorship on her guitar skills from fellow blues woman Debbie Davis after the Pam Taylor Band dismantled early in 2014. Topping several music charts with her debut CD ‘Hot Mess,’ Pam is eagerly anticipating getting into the studio to record their new creations and combining her skills with Roberts singing, songwriting and composition talents.


The Kicks may be young, but they are quick to admit that in a decidedly non-hipster way, they do indeed plan to rock you. Never interested in moping, navel gazing or wallowing in the emotional muck and mire that permeates so much of the modern music culture, Jordan Phillips (lead vocals, rhythm guitar,) Adam Stark (lead guitar, keys, backing vocals,) Gabriel Anderson (bass, backing vocals) and Lucas Cummins (drums) intend to take your breath away with massive melodies, epic guitar riffs, irresistible rhythms and lyrics that practically force you to sing along. Though perfectly comfortable in clubs, this is music made for stadiums and with every intention that's exactly where The Kicks are heading. 

“What initially inspired all of us to start this band,” Phillips recalls, “was the desire to create rock and roll music not only influenced by, but also played like rock and roll music used to be played. We grew up listening to McCartney, Queen, Aerosmith, The Beatles, The Stones, Faces, The Byrds, Foo Fighters, White Stripes, Petty, Springsteen and the other godparents of the genre. We wanted to play music that made us feel the same way those bands had.” Stark agrees. Having discovered the unbridled joy and freedom of the 60s and 70s era music his father played, he set his sights high. “There was such a spirit of freedom and exploration with the sounds in that music,” he conveys. “They were pushing boundaries and exploring uncharted territory. We wanted to pursue that pure energy – that raw excitement – and to share that connection with an audience.” 

The Kicks came together after meeting in college in 2008. The chemistry was immediate and within just a few gigs the band became one of the most talked about non-Country bands in Nashville. Club audiences around Music City and the general Southeastern corner of the US grinned and grooved as these impossibly gifted and improbably young musicians delivered shows that regularly earned them favorable comparisons to their heroes. They earned coveted opening slots supporting heavyweights like John Mayer and Los Lonely Boys and performed at the Austin City Limits Festival and South By Southwest and the Van's Warped Tour. Their song “Good Morning” was heard by millions in a national television ad campaign for Lowe's and other songs were heard in shows like Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars. 

Four years, two independent records and countless breathless gigs later the band has delivered "Tonight Changes Everything", a new full-length album that continues to celebrate and honor the best rock and roll of the last half century while simultaneously embracing many of the most impressive aspects of today's modern music scene. With the guidance and expertise of Grammy Award winning producers Mitch Dane and Vance Powell (Jack White, Raconteurs, Kings of Leon) and a collection of guitars, amps and effect pedals that in other circumstances would qualify as a decent inventory for a boutique music shop, this third Kicks release is potent, focused, perfectly realized and brutally catchy. For Stark, Tonight Changes Everything accomplishes everything the band set out to do musically and lyrically. “From what we are singing to how we are singing it, this is a record about hope,” he says. “Hope is what sustains us through struggle and allows us to keep pushing through – even when we feel like we've got nothing left.” 

“Yes we want to play arenas one day,” Anderson admits. “But we also want to make music that matters; genuine, authentic music that is a direct reflection of our hearts and minds.” The last four years of trench work has taught the band something important about the value of determination, resolve, encouragement and vision; all of which are on display in songs like “My Love Is Good,” “Hard to Believe” and the set's first track “Live Fast, Die Young.” Phillips feels that the band has tapped a new level of purpose with these songs. “We have spent the past few years asking ourselves the tough questions,” he adds. “Why are we playing in a band? What do The Kicks have to say?” The result is a batch of songs with a consistently upbeat, inspiring message of solidarity, optimism and determination to thrive in this world by helping each other along. In these trying times it's a message The Kicks feel still needs to be heard. “We aren't heavy-handed and self- important enough to think that whatever we write is going to be the most important thing anyone has ever heard,” Phillips adds, “But I do think that art with integrity is art with intent. Our intent is to leave people feeling better than before we played, that's all.” 

With Tonight Changes Everything in tow and a renewed sense of purpose The Kicks are hitting the road with one clear objective; to take their already impressive live show to a new level and to help their fans have a blast. “We know that people comes to Kicks shows to have a good time,” Anderson admits. “They want to forget about their problems and stresses for awhile. It may sound silly, but we take that job very seriously. A little inspiration can go a long way.” With their big guitars, sweeping harmonies and indelible hooks The Kicks are ready to pursue this calling and take you along for the ride.

Things to do when you're home alone on a Saturday
Some time ago I had a conversation with a friend about all these bands that spend years in the studio and I was saying you shouldn’t need to spend more than a couple of weeks (a month tops) to make a rock’n’roll record.
My friend kinda agreed with me but he was also saying he could understand those bands (even if they went a bit too far) and that the longer you stay in the studio the more perfect the record will be.
There is where we didn’t agree anymore.
I said that the longer you stay in the studio, the more options you have to kill the “spirit” of the record, get tired of the songs and (in the end) f**k the whole thing.
One thing led to another, I remember saying that the ideal time to make a record is one day, he said that’s impossible, I said it’s totally possible and then he said the worst thing you could say to me: “no balls”.
So I did it. I wrote 10 songs, I recorded them and I mixed them in one day. Only to prove it's possible.
I know, it’s silly. 
Exactly like the kind of rock’n’roll I like most: simple, fast and as far from intellectuality as possible.
More The Stooges and less Radiohead.
It’s a new record from EvilMrSod but it’s not “The new record” of EvilMrSod. That one is still on the works (together with one or two more).
So, turn the volume up and enjoy it.

Of all the fantastic moments this week at Pendleton Rock and Roll Camp (more on that later, I hope), the one I'll remember most fondly was fellow camp counselor Vaughn, a Pendleton native, unveiling his one-man loop pedal band, Day Moanstar, for the other counselors at a spaghetti party just outside of town. It was an amazing set, and we were all hollering along to lyrics like "Jurassic Par-tay / Party on the lawn with the mastadon," "Hey, fool, you think that you is cool/ Do you take a helicopter to school" and "In the land of the dinosaurs / Oh Christmas tree" (those are two different songs) and dancing like crazy.

Vaughn is a sweet, funny kid, and while there's a childlike quality to his work (I assure you none of it is feigned, he's just a funny guy), there are plenty of hot licks, also. I picked "Superhero Song" becuase it balances both the silly and the rocking. If Vaughn told me his dad was Stephen Malkmus, I'd totally believe him. His music isn't unlike the early Sexton Blake tunes, Mr. Hodges (now of the infamous Starfucker) would have sang about chocolate milk and legos." If Day Moanstar heads to Portland, we'll blog it like crazy.


Act 1: Casio -- Day Moanstar

When I was a wee lad my parents bought me a 1988 Casio SK1 Sampler Keyboard. I rocked out with its loop button and recorded programmed bossa nova beats while playing Chopsticks. I serenaded my parents and my little brother, who just happened to be with me at this show. I was sure, at the time, that even though I had dreams of being an astronaut like Jim Lovell, music might be my talent. Needless to say, I didn’t end up a one hit wonder.

I’m sure the story is the same for Day Moanstar, except his musical imagination is much larger than my own ever was. He could probably kill it on the giant step-on piano at FAO Schwarz. The nice looking one-man band and his friend Franco the keytar, started off the show with a lovely mix of synth loops and 
guitar. This always amazes me, so call me silly, but I must say it is a real talent to line up the loops just right, trust me. So it’s no wonder that the whole crowd was bursting with excitement when Day Moanstar was on stage dishing out beats and sounds. Never underestimate a one-man show.

Vaughn Anderton aka Daymoanstar is the first of many monthly music acts to play at Lyrik. I met the Pendleton native this summer while he was playing at a house show and his potential for great things in the music scene in Portland is obvious. He's a tremendous spirit which carries into his stage presence making for a show you wind up smiling through (not an easy feat in a town with such a strong showing in the somber, shoe-gazing, indie rock genre).
