To those who still may not know all that much on Dan, we’ll help you out from under that rock. As you can tell from just a bit of the praise from musical icons DJ Dan has received, our West Coast bred friend has been around the block a few times (and turning heads all the while). Music has been forever entrenched in Dan’s life, having garnered a superior record collection at the age of 8 that would give Amoeba Records a run for its money. Starting his professional musical career with some smaller clubs in Seattle and then Los Angeles, DJ Dan had a rise to recognition in the dance music community that could be considered meteoric. Forming the Funky Techno Tribe in 1993, DJ Dan fused together breakbeat, house, dub, and techno to create a sound that later was fittingly crowned, “West Coast House”. And with renowned tracks like “Needle Damage”, and remixes for everyone from Depeche Mode to Duck Sauce, Dan’s production prowess is undeniable. The journey that Dan’s talents have taken him on could go on for pages and pages. He has played alongside the likes of fellow legends from Carl Cox to John Digweed with a mission of making club goers unable to fight the urge to dance the night away.

And it’s not just party goers and fellow DJ’s who bow down to Dan, the press have drooled over his music. DJ Mag named DJ Dan the #1 House DJ in 2006 while Urb Magazine named him “America’s Favorite DJ” and “America’s Hardest Working DJ” while he was also DJ Time’s ‘America’s Best DJ’ 2014 Top Ten Finalist. The media has never been more accurate. But one of the proudest moments could be said when THUMP warned partygoers to ‘never fuck with DJ Dan’ much like one unfateful attdendant did this year in Baltimore to which Dan had the most powerful of responses.

Dan’s widely renowned Los Angeles based label Instereo Recordings,has further etched his name into dance music’s core. With TJR, Phunk Investigation, Wolfgang Gartner, DJ PP, DJ Sneak, Hatiras, and DJ Dan being amongst the many artists featured on the Instereo Recordings, the label is hard to ignore in the industry. Dan also has releases on Toolroom, Pacha Recordings, Ultra, Guesthouse, Work, XL Recordings, Magnetic, Rising, and many others. 

In 2014 Dan shows no signs of slowing down. His EDC set was rated as one of the best sets of the weekend by DJOYBEAT.com as well as Magnetic Mag. Similar buzz had Insomniac President/ CEO Pasquale Rotella chiming in:

"We go back since the early 90′s and he DJ’d some of my first warehouse parties. He’s an LA underground staple and music legend.”

And if that wasn’t enough, in the recent major dance music poll ‘America’s Best DJ’, DJ Dan clocked in at #9 in a extremely competitive field; beating out some of the largest names in electronic music.

As this dance music world continues to evolve, it is safe to say that DJ Dan will continue to be one of its strongest voices and most powerful influencers.

One of the longest running fun creators in the Bay Area dance music and underground arts scene. Called a "Renaissance man of the West Coast scene", and with good reason. Founder of the legendary Opulent Temple collective, best known for their premiere sound stage at Burning Man, past Board Member and key producer of the San Francisco LovEvolution event (formerly known as LoveFest/Love Parade), founder of Opel Productions, throwing club events and 'parties with purpose' in San Francisco for 17+ years, a child psychologist with a Doctorate in transpersonal psychology, curator of sound in SF and BRC, blogger on social issues, and of course - a DJ.

Started throwing both underground parties in 2001, and benefit events for different charities with Spundae. Following year  started Opel Productions, intended to be parties with purpose showcasing a range of forward thinking underground dance music with a dash of social activism thrown in the party message. In 2003, finished a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, founded Opulent Temple, and joined the Board for San Francisco's Love event. In current 'day job', work out of a community clinic with foster kids in the Bayview Hunter Point area in San Francisco.

On the DJ tip, one of the West Coast's top talents, consistently being voted in the Top 10 San Francisco Dream Team poll, and playing the biggest events in California party land. Playing a versatile range of house and techno and breaks, been personally tapped to open and close for the varied likes of Underworld, Moby, Tiesto, Stanton Warriors, Armin Van Burren, and the list goes on.  Knows what to do in any situation to bring the universal vibe of dance music.  Sets are known for walking the fine line between the gritty and the pretty, with a musical range seldom seen in party land.

Nurse Noise is a dynamic DJ who specializes in cross-genre, bass-heavy beats guaranteed to make you move. With a strong femme presence and a focus on creating positive vibes, she blends her love for music with an infectious energy behind the decks.

Born in South Africa and raised in a musical family, she played various instruments, finding her rhythm in DJing after moving to San Francisco. A true community builder, she aims to uplift and connect through high-vibration music, bringing people together on dance floors across the Bay Area.

By day, she’s an occupational therapist supporting children with sensory needs, but by night, she’s spinning tracks that are pure medicine for the soul. Nurse Noise specializes in cross-genre booty-shaking, bass-heavy, good-time feeling beats. She believes the attitude behind the decks is just as important as the music selection and mixing. With a background in performance arts, you might find her dancing on speakers to get the crowd going.

Cptn Jay has been bringing joy to dance floors in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond for over 20 years with unforgettable DJ sets, stand-out original releases, and the production of truly unique event experiences. Starting his journey in the early 90s Oakland rave scene with a handful of German techno tapes, The Captain has grown from dance music super fan to DJ to event producer to Burring Man them camp organizer to independent dance music label owner.

At his core, Cptn Jay lives to incite love and joy with his music, connect with the crowd, and take the dancefloor on a musical journey. Occupying a unique space between soaring melodies, groovey European techno, and funky deep house, Jay's music is filled with rich analog synthesis, bubbling aprs, beautiful melodies, world rhythms, wonkey baselines and good vibes; tracks that are masterfully composed and selected with a certain refinement that has gotten him noticed as one of the West Coast's top underground talents. Obsessed with putting the "dance" back into “electronic dance music" Jay’s original music and DJ sets consistently move crowds to higher places on dance floors all over the world. From the deserts of Burning Man to the island of Ibiza, Cptn Jay has shared stages many of the world's top DJ talent including Sven Vath, Carl Cox, Diplo, Claud Von Stroke, Tycho, Walker & Royce, Giome, DJ Dan, Developer,  David Hohme, Soul Button, Miyagi, and many more.

Getting his name as the one of the co-founders and captains of influential Airpusher Collective, a beloved Burning Man mutant vehicle/airship/community/sound & events collective, Jay has been able to fully realize his two decades long quest of inspiring and connecting people through art, music, and dance with Airpusher. Over the past decade his parties have become known for their perfect blend of amazing music, infectious positivity, and creative flair across the spectrum from small undergrounds to big productions like the Steampunk Masquerade.

The COVID lockdown provided Jay the time and space to dive deeply into music production through modular synthesis, learning to literally create his own sound from the ground up. The results have been incredible, with his landmark first EP “Cptn Jay - Loves You (EP)” set to come out in May. Building on this new found passion for production and bringing more beautiful music into the world, 2023 is lining up to be a landmark year for the Captain as he’s also launching the independent dance music label “YES! Records”. The label’s mission is to uplift a multiracial selection of innovative artists who set the foundation for magical experiences among dance music lovers.
