I work as a freelance music consultant, writing about, editing and producing (audio, digital and print)  classical, contemporary classical and band music. Through PHM Publishing and Production I am making available a range of  band, orchestral and vocal music. Much of this I have edited or realised myself, but I am particularly proud to be able to publish hitherto unknown music by the innovative brass composer of the 20th century, Wilfred Heaton, audio files and performances of whose music feature here.

Marsden Silver Prize Band is a Championship Section band based in what is hotly contested to be the banding heartland of West Yorkshire. Under the baton of the highly regarded Mr Glyn Williams, they spend their time entertaining crowds with a full and rich programme of entertaining music, or preparing for and entering many different contests across the UK.  For example, in 2012 Marsden Silver competed against 166 other bands, both national and international, in the Whit Friday march competitions where they showed their excellence by being placed third overall.  The band is now ranked within the top 30 in the world.  Despite this success they remain a village band at heart, playing at many local events in the community of Marsden and surrounding areas.
They are part of Marsden Musical Institute, which also has 3 other bands, aimed at developing future talent and ensuring the continuation of the brass banding movement.  The Beginner Band welcomes anyone who is interested in starting to play a brass or percussion instrument, learning and improving in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, regardless of age!  Next comes the growing Junior Band, who enjoy performing an increasingly challenging repertoire in regular concerts around Marsden.  They also have a thriving social life, including events such as sponsored walks, treasure hunts and games nights.  For the more experienced player, Marsden Concert Brass is a friendly non-contesting band playing a wide variety of music, from traditional brass band pieces to music from films and musicals.  It is possible to go from complete beginner to performing at the highest levels without leaving the organisation!
The institute has its own club with a licensed bar, Marsden Band 'Ole, where all the bands rehearse, host events and generally socialise on a regular basis.  The doors are always open to other musical groups who need somewhere to come and work on their own creations.  The club has a large functions room catering for anyone wishing to celebrate a special occasion in a lovely, friendly family atmosphere. 


The successful BTM Brass Band is based in the small village of Bedwas, just outside Caerphilly (South Wales, UK).
