All we wanted to do was create something that gave back to the listener.

It initially started as a discussion between Tom (Attentat) and myself about recording a mix together. We had played several gigs as a duo over the last twelve months, but for some reason none of those shows were recorded, and Tom said, “let’s just put a recording together”. Simple enough, but as we started to brainstorm and dive into the mix, we both came to the conclusion that we wanted to take the time to make something better than we’d ever done in the past: in terms of artfully crafting a mix.

One mix which we will always refer to in such matters is the Resident Advisor Podcast #219 recorded by Cio D’or at Panorama Bar in the summer of 2010. Although it is almost 5 years old, which in techno and electronic music is almost an epoch, it is such a transcendent mix that it will never get old to us. Like a chess player, Cio D’or thought three to four “moves” ahead of time as each track was perfectly slotted for each mix in the podcast. And it made me think that there are two types of deejays; not vinyl versus digital or old school versus new school, but chess versus checkers. The DJ’s whom we admire, and whom we we will employ for this series as the chess players: those that think several moves ahead of each mix, beyond playing Track A into Track B, but thinking out Tracks A through Z and impeccably placing each song, each note in between.

In essence, this new series is for those of you who spend long hours at work, listening to mixes to get you through the day; to make the week go by faster. This mix is for those of you who take long commutes daily by train, by car, by bus and by foot. These tracks are picked out to be more than just filler in your day.

The concept behind the label god particle was born on a long Tube ride in London a couple of years ago while reading a 
'get to know' article on the Large Hadron Collider and its work to discover the 'God Particle', which in theory functions as the basic building blocks that form our visible universe.  DJ's daydreams on train rides naturally drift towards music and how it connects with life, and the connections seemed obvious- how some of the most treasured tracks are also the most simple, loop-driven songs that work perfectly at binding everything together while mixing.  So god particle is born, a new home for friends here in Chicago and beyond that are interested in showcasing this type of work.  Loopy, groove-oriented house and techno tracks that connect the dots for DJs during their sets.  The series will feature vinyl-only limited releases and pressings, each with it's own color and design created by Justin Kohout- the visual artist of god particle.

Kenton Schawe AKA DJ Nutmeg has been contributing to the dance scene since the early 90’s. While living in Denver, CO, Nutmeg purchased his first set of 1200’s in the summer of 1995 and has been gracing dance floors all over the country ever since. Nutmeg was the winner of Westword's "Best Club DJ" in 2004 and 2005, voted "Best Up-and-Coming DJ" in 1999/2000, and "Best House DJ" in 2001. He has played with some of the world's finest and most accomplished DJs and producers including DJ Dan, BT, Paul Oakenfold, Bassment Jax, Robert Miles, John Digweed, Bad Boy Bill, Wicked Crew, Mark Farina, Scumfrog, PillowTalk, Maetrik, Christian Martin of Dirtbird and countless others.  Nutmeg also produces under Nutelli with long time friend and dj Partner Tony Rodelli, with releases on 2MR2, Native Soul and OneThirty Recordings!! With nearly 20 years dj experience the season vet will not disappoint.
