Coming up in the music scene of Kansas City and currently residing in Detroit, Uun developed his interest in the fringes of sound as a guitarist in multiple bands before turning his focus to techno in 2012. Both his early work as a band member and his current output as a techno performer share a common exploration of darkness both in mood and in execution. Hard Wax described Uun's sound as a "straight-ahead techno juggernaut."

Although he has been producing and performing since 2012, Uun’s profile has recently risen substantially, with releases on Mord, Soma, and Modularz. Resident Advisor referred to this ability to work within many different imprints and styles as “quietly infiltrating techno”, and compared his music to the latter days of the Sandwell District. As well as releasing on many noteworthy labels, he also has his own imprint to showcase the scope of his productions. Titled Ego Death, the label explores themes of existentialism, duality, and what it means to be an artist in the modern era. Now on its fifth vinyl release, each strives to create a unique and varied atmosphere.

His live performance is an extension of hard-working music-first ethos. In this format, Uun constructs thousands of studio hours into a powerful contained experience. Each outing can greatly differ as new elements are always added. He has brought this unique approach to underground events all over the USA, as well as choice bookings in Europe at Tresor, Griessmuehle, Gegen, as well as Khidi in Tbilisi. Uun’s steady output of productions have long been included in many substantial dj sets, with the most noteworthy being both Blawan and Luke Slater’s mixes for BBC Essentials.

Fresh off the release of his anticipated debut full-length, “Derealization”, issued a few weeks ago on Ego Death, Detroit-based producer Uun clocks in our podcast series to deliver some of his vehemently rugged and dark gospel, and to which effect! With a number of choice releases under his belt for some of the most highly-regarded techno labels out there (MORD, Semantica, Modularz…), Uun is one to indulge in the harsher, choppier side of industrial rhythms, more keen on point-blank bazooka hits than long-distance minimal sniper-ism if he where to choose a side. His RYC mix features the very brain-melting character of his compositions and we’re delighted to count him on board. His mind melting live performance have been featured at many institutions, including Movement Festival in Detroit, Tresor in Berlin, Khidi in Tbilisi, and Basement in NYC. Uun's techno blends widescreen grayscale imagery with propulsive dancefloor pressure. 
Whether crafting what Hardwax dubs "straight ahead techno juggernauts" or deep, introspective tools, his work is grounded in a masterful command of atmosphere and texture.

Uun developed his interest in fringe sounds as a guitarist and drummer in his hometown of Kansas City before shifting his attention to electronic music in 2012. 
This led him to relocate to Detroit, where he spent seven years pushing deeper into the underground techno scene, refining his production and performance methods. 
Between the Midwest and several periods in Berlin—another city he's found a deep connection to—he's honed a style that's allowed his music to nimbly navigate between different subgenres, "quietly infiltrating" the genre from multiple angles at once.

Uun's sound and his ability to mold it into a variety of forms has captured the attention of lauded techno labels like Mord, Semantica, and Soma. 
On his own Ego Death imprint, he pushes past genre confines and deeper into his music's underlying themes, exploring existentialism, duality, and the role of the artist in the modern era. 
His first full length, 2022's Derealization, interrogated dreams through rebuilding memories of liminal spaces, and on his latest Ego Death release, 2024's Platform Decay, he laces his tracks with a poignant criticism of social media-driven cultural homogenization while doubling down on his own uncompromising sound.

As a live performer, Uun distills years of his studio practice into cathartic sets that build off his productions while pushing them into exploratory new territory. 
His live show has taken him to legendary clubs like Berlin's Tresor, Tbilisi's Khidi, and Brookyln's Basement, and alongside the decade-plus of releases under his belt, it's safe to say Uun's infiltration of techno might not be so quiet for much longer.

In late 2016 Uun created his own imprint as a platform to showcase the diversity of his productions. Titled Ego Death, the label explores themes of existentialism, duality, and what it means to be an artist in the modern era. Now on it's fifth release, each strives to create a unique and varied atmosphere.
Currently his primary form of performance is a live set consisting of all original material. These performances take his previous skills as a DJ / multi-instrumentalist and blends them with his love of sound design and production all while maintaining an attention to the dance floor.

Creating vast cavernous trenches and atmospheric bleeds to form indescribable audio landscapes is American born producer Ryan Malony, who explores textural landscapes under the renowned pseudonym, Uun.
